Title: Sapling bow help
Post by: chillguy on February 15, 2012, 06:09:02 pm
All right so since I joined PA I have broken 3 bows. I have tried to build bows from saplings and everything seems to be going great until I develop a hinge! BOOOO hinges. I think that I am trying to move to fast. So being that I am a beginner I'm probably rushing a delicate process is there a good thread someone can show me about sapling bows? Thanks in advance!

Hi Chillguy.  I've been searching old posts on the same topic.  I sent you a PM with a bunch of links that I think will be helpful.  Hope it goes well.

Do a search on 'Gizmo'. That will help you get an 'eye' for finding flat spots and avoiding hinges.

GO SLOW. When it comes close to finishing your tiller, challenge yourself to make each scrape smaller than the last. Some people are gun-shy when drawing their bows, I am gun-shy about every step in wood removal  :P
