I know this has nothing to do with archery, but I just can't get over my 88 year old Dad's scoll saw work. He told me the other day that he'd just done his hardest scroll saw project. I had no idea it was this intricate. He told me he had no idea how many holes he'd drilled to insert that teeny blade.

Man that is just so off the hook I guess when you live that long you have more patience than us young sprouts.
-
thats awesome how long did it take him to do that.
-
I think he said 4 or 5 days, but I can call and ask him. His memory is better than mine I'm afraid.

That ol mill ain't nothing a little duct tape, and bailing wire couldn't fix, fer awhile anyways....... ;D ;D Superb work. He must have good eyes, as well as a steady hand. Again that is really nice! 8) 8)

I'm not sure where he gets his patterns, but I think he glues them to the oak and then cuts through them as he works the piece. This and bowling are his 2 hobbies. His knees may not let him bowl much longer. He has told me many times that he's surprised his hands are still steady enough to do this work. He's also told me many times how grateful he is that there's still something he can do that's creative and makes people happy. That one was so intense I'm not sure he'll do it again.
Thank you all. I think I'll copy out all the responses and send them to him in an email. Y'all will make his day.

That is amazing and beautiful.
I could actually see me picking up that hobby.

I talked to Dad last night. It took him 2 weeks to complete this one. He took up the hobby just in the last decade or two, though he did carpentry throughout his adult life. I also asked him what finish he uses. He likes the natural color of oak (as do I) so all he gives it is one coat of linseed oil followed by 2 sprayed on coats of clear lacquer. This piece was so flimsy when completed that it has a glued on backing of blue canvas to stabilize it. He's got a special talent for sure. As an aside, he will go to his graduating high school class' 69th reunion this summer in Minnesota.
Thanks for all your kind words.

Your Dad has some mad skill there. Heirloom piece no doubt.

Just one comment, it aint his age that is so amazing it is his skill level. His artistry doesn't need
qualification. It stands alone.
