I am looking for plans, photos or whatever tips/suggestions I can get for building my own stavemaster style bowyers bench. Anybody?
-
You had better get an attorney first. The Stave Master is Keenan's design and creation. ;)
-
I might wanna get one for hold a stave while I remove bark. Whats he (or you, if your reading this keenan) sell em for?
-
I have access to a welding shop and all the steel I need and I have looked into making one my self and I get the steel for the price the shop gets it for. Honestly you arent going to save much if any at all by making your own, for the time and materials cost Keenan puts into these he really isnt going to get rich, nor are they over priced. They are very well priced IMO. Save up some cash and just buy one from him thats what im gonna do. .02

Google 'Shave horse',
Its the same thing used in old time wood craft.
-
Tenbrook, that is very similar to the one I built many years ago. One difference is I put the arm for the knucklehead in the center instead of on one side. This way I can place the stave to one side or the other when working it down.

Thank you everyone, for your interest in the Stave Master Bow benches. We are still in the early stages of marketing this product, and therefor have tried not to break any rules about selling before we get the advertising in place. We have contacted PA about our add and hope to have it up soon.
Thank you for all the support and good testimonials of those that have seen and tried them out. Much time and effort has gone into designing what we feel is the very best bow bench on the market. We know that many people may wish to build there own, and we have had many inquiries about plans. We hope that you will all understand that we have too much invested, to just give out plans. As Josh stated, we are not going to get rich at the price that we getting for them. I have had a steel fab business for years and we have the cost down to a bare minimum with no "middle man" mark up on them. In addition we have invested money in the patenting process, as we are patenting the Stave Master. We are very proud of this product and positive feedback we have had from all who purchased and used the Stave Master.

Keenan emailed me pics of the Stavemaster. Ok, I guess.
I see the cupholder for beverage of choice (you'd never believe how many bows I have made with coffee colored stain), but where is the touchscreen bluetooth SatNav with rear back-up camera display???
-
Steve, Thank you and looking forward to it.
John , You may be on to something,,, A big screen to watch the tillering video while scraping your bow! :o
-
I tried that once, a 13 inch tv on the end of the bench. Excellent way to trade bow making for hinge making. Grrrrrrrr :embarassed:

I need some hinges for the doors on my new bow making shed. How about a little help. 8)

There's a pile of 'em out back by the smoker...oh wait, they are under the smoker now. >:D

I can't imagine that someone could one-off one of these for less than what Keenan will sell it for (when you factor in the time you will need to put in). Let's support the good folks that make our craft and sport possible. Theirs is a labor of love - no one is getting rich on this stuff.
BTW, I have one of Keenan's benches and I love it. I frequently help other folks with their bows and I love how I can throw this bench in the back of my truck, drive drive to their home and have them shaving within minutes.
-
Gordon, maybe you can drive yours over to my place...it sure would be nice to test drive one first.
BTW, I didn't mean to sound as though I was looking to one-off or knock-off Keenan's design. I was using "stavemaster" like people use "zip-loc" when referring to a plastic bag. I thought it was more of a trade name than a trademark name. Anyway, what I had pictured in my mind was a wooden construction shave horse (didn't know it by that name when I posted), rather than what Keenan has constructed, which looks more like a stair master. ;) No doubt it works beautifully. Much better than my bench vice. Would seriously like to test drive one.

I am going to be running bow making 'classes' here in England sometime in the relatively near future and have been pondering the best stave holding setup for people to use. Keenan could you post some pics of your StaveMaster here. You may well get an order for a few.
Many thanks

Mike, here are a few pictures of the Stave Master.

There is a nice set of images with measures in metrics here:

The instructions are in danish but most likely not nessecary if you know how to read a blueprint. ;D
-
i need that tool holder Keenan.i didn't know you had those.i want to order one of those when we meet up this spring.
-
That looks awesome, Keenan - best of luck with it! Finally, an exercise machine that won't become a glorified towel rack. ;D
-
I'm with you seabass,I need one of those to. Be sure and bring some of the updates and add on's to the Classic Keenan. I think you had told me about the tool and cup holder but I hadn't seen one till now. I also love mine, very well made and I feel sure like Gordon said if you figure your time is worth anything you can't build one as cheap as you can buy it. :)

Steve and Pappy I will be bringing some to the Classic. ;) I was thinking that we should make a special "cooler attachment" on the back of the bench for Cracker. ;D
Postman; Lulyn got a good chuckle out of that one.

Here's a shaving horse I built thirty years ago. All built with hand tools.

Just so you know I was thinking about a tap so I wouldn't have to worry about running out.Ron

Skip the tap, maybe one of those "bite valves" like they have on hydration packs. Just stick that sucker in the corner of your mouth, attach a catheter on the other end and never leave the farm.
-
Ok, I went too far on that one.
