Ok fellers :) Here's something a little different!
My father in-law gave me this busted up knife to play with, and I thought I'd take a few pictures along the way.
I've never worked on a pocket knife before, but figured if I was gonna try to fix it, I'd make it the ay I want it!
The blades and back springs were in good shape, as well as the liners.
I don't care for brass bolsters and since two of them came off, I went ahead and replaced them all with nickel/silver instead. The wood handle scales were to be replaced with some good 'ol Wolf Watcher elk antler!
-
That looks like a cool project. I can't wait to see how it turns out.
-
Very cool Shannon. I have a few old knives that could use some rebuilding. ;)
-
With new scales pinned on and bolsers roughed in, it's time to assemble everything. It took me a while, but I finally figured out where everything was supposed to go :-[ Next time I'll pay better attention to this before I take it apart.
Once assembled , it needed a lot of finish work and some fine "tuning" of the blades.
It was a pretty fun little project that ended with me having gained some knowledge and....a nice knife 8)
Site won't let me post last pics

that is great the old kissing crane knives are top quality. they were made in germany i think.
-
again
-
NICE!! That knife looks great!

-
great job on the rebuild
-
My Man,...You are a craftsman. That looks really knice. Did you start and finish that today? Good job! 8) dpgratz
-
You always amaze me, Bud, beautifull job. :)
-
oh wow
<----- speechless for a change.
-
What your father-in-law think?
-
OK, now you done it...I will be canvasing the local pawn shops, Salvation Army, Antique Venues and such with a whole new vengeance....what a stellar transformation!
-
Now that's about as good as it can get You done dang good there Shannon I'm impressed. Bring it along next time you visit Twin Oaks so I can get a closer gander.
-
::) Shannon: I think your talents are so far beyond normal its unbelievable! :o Do you think we might make a trade at the Classic of elk horn for turkey beards? Hello to your little man!
-
Don't be scared of 'em Pat! If I can do it... so can you.
Thomas, the old Kissing Kranes were made in Germany and are good knives. The newer ones come from China and are not so good :(
Bowtarist, I'm no craftsman. The way I was raised, you learned to either repair or make what you needed. If something hit the
garbage can, you can bet it was truly JUNK!
Bevan, he hasn't seen it yet. He can't have it back though! My little boy already claimed it ;D
Watch out Lee! I think this stuff could be habit forming! I wish I had a few more broken knives to work on.
I will Jon ;)
I'll give you every beard I have...If you'll come and get 'em Joe. Mason and I were talking about you a couple days ago. I think I'll bring him to the Classic with me this spring. It's getting about time he see's what it's all about.
Thanks for the comments guys. If any of you want to try something like this I found a forum that has tons of good info on pocket knives. I'm not sure about posting it though. :-\
-
Saw Filer, can you drop me a PM with that link? I'm very interested...thanks!
-
Nice save Shannon!
-
well done!!
having taken a cupla pocket knives apart
and never getting em back together
i really appreciate your results.
btw, i have numerous old pockets knives, and some extra blades and such.
all missing scales or have a broken blade or some such malady
your welcome to em if you like
would rather see someone do something with em.
theyve been in an old cigar box too many years
-
Well thanks for the offer Sadiejane! I'd gladly trade labor, for a few parts knives. Now I know how somebody feels when the want to make a bow and don't have a stave.
-
Shannon, post the link. If it isn't supposed to be here I'll doctor it so we can still find it.
-
This gives me some hope. I have an old pocketknife that holds an edge like a diamond but the body of the blade is so thick it is uncomfortable to carry in the pocket. Maybe I can rebuild it!
-
Great now I have to finish the three pocket knives that i took apart to fix ::), Bub
-
OK Eddie! How bout this...Just search for "All About Pocket Knives" That'll get you there. It can be hard to find what you want, so use the search box (it's way down at the bottom of the page) ;)

How much trouble would it be to mount the shield emblem off the old scale?
-
I don't think it would be much trouble at all Greg. I'll most likely install it in a few days. It's brass though and I'm not sure it'll look good. :-\
