Finely got My Winged Elm finished. It turned out a sweet shooter, not sure why.I bent a little reflex/deflex in it and flipped the tips a little more that usuall so that
may be why.All I know it is smooth, quick and quite. 53@26 63 n-n deer horn overlays, walnut stain and backed with Air. :) :)

Sweet air backed bow pappy ;)....those are smooth forgiving profiles for sure :)
-
That thing sure does have some nice curves. Looks like it would be a fun bow to shoot.
-
Sweet bow pappy. That is an awesome braced profile.
-
Nice one Pappy. Looks like a few bows got their birth at Twin Oaks this month. :)
-
Nice bow Pappy. I like your open-air workshop too.
-
Sweet looking bow. I think elm might be my favourite species.
-
Very nice Pappy. Ain't that elm some good bow wood. I was pleasantly surprised last winter with the 60" recurve I built!
-
Handsome bow Pappy. That bow screams "I'm the real thing!"
-
I sure do love that bow Pap! You said it all, smooth, quick and quiet :) its even better looking in person ;) Gotta love that wood 2! "Elm, it gives your bow wings"  :)

Beautiful bow Pappy. I guess I'm gonna have to give elm a try. I traded for 2 pretty elm staves but haven't ever made a bow of elm. Both yours and Pat's are sweet!

Love the braced shot! whole bow is sweet. very nice work on putting the bends into it.
-
Thanks Guys, Yes George this was my first and I was very pleasantly surprised
with the wood, very snappy ,you do have to keep it dry while you are making the bow and seal it good afterwards but if you do that is is great bow wood. I put 8 coats of tru oil and 2 coats of satin Polly on this one and kept it in the hot box in between workings. :) :)

Love that profile...... great work

That is a dandy Pappy, I love that profile and I do believe that is one of the reasons it's such a sweet shooter. Nice horn tips and great tiiler. ;)
-
That is a nice looking bow there, Pappy! Great looking profile and horn nocks. It just looks fast!
-
Sharp lookin' bow, great job on that one.
-
I have never had good luck with air backed bows, it always seems to peel up on me? Even with URAC. Nice job Pappy.
-
Aint she a beaut! :). Another good one there Pappy!

That's a very sweet looking R/D profile.... I would love to get that into one of my bows !!

Great lookin' bow Pappy, sweet profile and I like those tips, looks like a great shooter.Elm does make a good bow and I am glad to see you post once again.Someday I'd like to check out that workshop of yours-Hammertime
-
Looks nice! It would look a lot better resting safe and secure in Indian Mound. 8)
-
Oh yes that is very nice.....Very nice braced and drawn profiles. :)
-
That's a beautiful bow; full draw and braced profiles look dead on. I've been hoping to find some decent elm that isn't already dead and rotten around where I live. The only one I've spotted so far is in a place I can't legally cut it. Dutch elm disease seems to be pretty rampant around Watertown, NY.
-
Thanks again ,I appreciate the comments. adb it is a type of Elm,it has things that look like wings on the limbs, pretty easy to spot.Any time Hammertime, love to have you. Jude what part of NY is that ? I have 3 buddy's coming down from just North of Buffalo Monday for a week. A piece just might make it's way back if you are close. :) :)

Thanks for sharing... want to do like that beautiful bow... :)
-
Turned out real nice Pappy! I knew you would get it done...sooner or later! Ha ;D
-
Ya Timo always seem like later for me anymore. ;) :) :) Thanks for you advice on
this one,Taking it slow and keeping it dry I think is the key to Elm. :)

Gosh, can't believe it's been a week since I looked at this post! Thanks for the sentiment Pappy, but I live about 4 hours east of Buffalo, so it would probably be a little out of their way. Besides, I'm deployed and my wife might not know what to think of strange men showing up at the house to drop off wood :D Then again, she's been married to me for 16 years, so likely nothing will surprise her ;D
-
Ya that may have been a little out of the way, :) :) Had a good piece picked out tho. ;) :) :) Thanks for your service. :)
Pappy
-
very nice lines for an air backed bow, evrything else has been said already......Oh, that sure looks like a nice place you have there...plenty of space!!!!! lucky man..
-
please forgive me pappy..i didn't see this topic to comment.....i haven't worked elm BUT i must say that you did the wood Justice and it looks great...i might have to give it a try some day...thanks for sharing....john
-
Thanks John,I miss a lot here also.Elm is a good wood, just have to treat it a lot like Hickory/and other white woods as far as keeping it dry while you are working on it. :)other than that it is tough and springy. :) :)

Howdy Pappy,
Again, really nice bow. I like the handle and arrow rest, the gentle R/D limbs, and I like the overall simplicity. To me, it's an ideal huntin' weapon.
Thanks for sharing,

-
great job Pappy.i have a snakey winged elm.63" 50@28.that elm does make a fast and quiet bow.once again, great job.see you in the spring,Steve
-
Thanks Canoe and Steve you are right, it is for some reason the quietest bow I think I have ever built, It may be the weight of the wood, not sure but it is very quite. :)
Pappy
-
This bow makes things around it quieter!! Along with the absence of shock, you have to check the target to be sure you ever shot the bow! ;D
-
the fades are perfect, nice job and nice bow!
-
Thanks Alex/DRon. Much appreciated. :)
