Now I've got this one I'm working on. I'm not as pleased with the deer as I had hoped so I may be starting over with it. Plus I'm terrible at getting the scale right.

Still got a lot of little details to go...probably have to finish it before I really know whether or not I like it.

At request I coated the antlers in antiqued white. They pop, now. I thought it might be too much but it looks pretty good. I also asked my neighbor to check out my scale and he says it's pretty damn close...he had some critiques about proportion but it looked good. I trust his judgment on it...I haven't seen a deer up close in nearly a decade I think.
I worked up a tree. The idea was an oak but it wanted to take on a twisted, gnarled and windswept mesquite shape so I went with that. I'll try again later and see if I can get closer to the intended shape. I still need to make a couple of tufts of grass or something...been toying with the idea of some yuccas.
I made some basic changes to the archer's posture. Had to adjust a little bit to compensate for the weight of the arrow. I tried to add a couple feathers to his head, but my feathers seem to only really work well when in a large group. Two looks like he's being a ninja. They're also too long. I'm going to trim them up and add a few touches of paint to see if I make them look like feathers.

I like them very much!
-
Mak, those are just great! I love your work.
-
You know... the more I look at those, the more I like 'em! I like the scene: Buck, tree, bowhunter. It's really cool, Mak. I know you were trading them earlier this summer. Interested in a trade for that scene?
-
Just in case you don't have enough to keep you busy, how about a buffalo at full gallop and a mounted rider with horsebow in pursuit??? >:D
Or maybe a mammoth surrounded by hunters with atlatls? >:D
Or a traditional samurai with a yumi bow? >:D
-
I've wanted to do the buffalo scene...I just need someone in line to buy it haha. I literally have so many of these things around my house that there's spiders hanging off the door jams and dragons hiding in my stereo speakers. It has been decided by the boss that I am only to make more is:
I sell one of my own
~or~
It's going in a box to ship the moment I am finished
I did do a Larson one some time back of a mammoth sprawled out on his back with with little arrow sticking out of his crotch and a couple of hunters standing around scratching their heads. Anyone who saw it in one of Larson's books would remember the caption "We really have to remember that spot."
-
ROFLMAO
;D
-
A good picture with them would make for a different magazine cover. Just a thought.
-
Excellent idea!
-
You guys can feel free to contact the "powers that be" about it. I could do the buffalo scene and it would be a justifiable expense. I would be happy to give it to the forum to be raffled off for donations if I could get a piece of my work properly published.
-
Tickets for that buffalo scene would sell faster than cold beer in hell! I love it and I haven't even seen it yet!
-
Finished about to ship out...

That is so cool. Almost makes me wish I had a management desk to sit it on.
-
Don't need a management desk for these little scenes. Mine sits at a place of honor on the end table next to the couch.

-
Thanks, everyone!

Thats too cool. I want one of an elk out of copper on a mountain side of steel. should I take a number or can I move to the front of the line if i supply the copper ;D
-
ha there's currently a line I can't bypass...but it's a doable piece. I wouldn't suggest a lot of coper, though. Sags over time.

Thats some amazing work!!
