Title: Tillering Hickory Under High Humidity

I have a hickory/bamboo R/D ready to finish out.

Should I wait until humidity is low, or can I tiller it outside for an hour at a time and then bring it back in?

Not sure at the rate hickory takes on moisture.

Do you have a hot box to stash it in between tillering sessions Pete? That would be handy right about now.

No I don't. I'll keep the bow by the woodstove until this rain band passes and then get back on it-no hurry anyway. Thanks-PD

Pete, hygroscopic rate(taking on and releasing atmospheric moisture) is relatively slow. It takes days for it to affect the wood. You can work your bow outside with no problems but do store it in dryer conditions between work sessions.

I've made hickory bows living in S. Florida during the wet season, without issue.  Follow Pat's advice, keep it inside when not working it and I recommend heat treating after ground tiller.
