We cut enough Hickory for at least 75 potential bows Sat.The tree was 24 in. at the stump and cut 5 75 i. logs to the first limb.Took most of the day but we got it cut, hauled, debarked and sealed
before we quit.Greg,Anthony and me mostly.Had another friend or 2 pitch in a little.I am sore today
as I bet they are.None of our young guys showed up so it was just us old fellows but we still
can do it when we have to. ;D

That is a serious haul of some excellent looking wood. :) Jawge

Ya Jawges it was some very clean Hickory. We usually cut 1 or 2 like that each year. This was
about the biggest and cleanest I have seen at least on the 3/4/5th log. They aren't usually that
good once you get the first 1 or 2 logs. :)

Yeah, that one looked to be uncommonly straight and true.
I've cut down a few hikrees fer bows , best I've done was 4- 7foot sections , 21" across, pipe straight before the first limb.Least you had some help! Ain't no heavy like wet hikree heavy!
Good haul ;)

Beautiful Wood Pappy. I hope ya'll have cooler weather for this like we had here this weekend. A few more of those log cutting expeditions, Greg will be able to come out and eat with you guys again. ;) Pat
-
Ya Pat the weather couldn't have been better and Greg said he needed some meat after that day,
The veggies just wasn't getting it done. ;D ;D

What an impressive piece of work. I can understand why you guys were sore the other day. But it seems like it was worth it :D! That is a lot of fine lumber.
Congratulations,
Heiner

Hi, No wood like that where I live! From what little tree cutting I've done, I'm impressed that there aren't a lot more people killed or injured felling trees. The things are darn'd heavy. Nice looking staves. Ron

Some thick sapwood on that one. I love the smel emitted when fesh wood is splitting.

That's one big strait bugger ;)

Ryan if I knew what kind to cut I will cut you all you want. What you need to do is make a trip to Tn. and hunt some deer/Turkey and pick them and I will be glad to cut them and send them North with you.Opens in Sept. and closes in Jan. ;)

The weather couldn't have been better Saturday temperature wise, we hit it lucky. Hopefully the cooler weather will also allow the moisture to leave the wood initially at a slower rate, and maybe we won't get any checks in the logs. Most of them will eventually need to be split at least in half, and some into thirds...but we got them to a weight us old guys could handle. Would have had to reduce them more if we'd had some younger generation helping that havn't experienced real work! ;D
It was scarey there for a while with Pappy's leg until we realised it wasn't broken. I thought for sure we were looking at an Emergency Room visit.
-
You take care of him while yer cuttin wood like that , Greg. We don't wanna see him stumpin around at the classic with a wooden leg! Guess he could make one out of a piece of character osage with a hole in it! ;D :D
-
Dang Pappy, don't go throwing out offers like that if you don't really mean it, I may just show up on your door step! :) How much is a non-resident licence fee? :)
Did that whole log roll over on your foot? ouch! :-\ I dropped a half split of elm (possibly the one I gave you guys.) from my truck bed on to my foot this spring, man did that hurt!!!! :P
-
I'll have to check on the cost and let you know but I think it is a couple of hundred dollars
for the season, and and ant passing out invites that I don't mean, come anytime and if you let me know in time I will take off and hunt with you.Got 435 ac. and you are welcome,Trad. bows only but I know with you that ant a a problem .It was a 1/4 log that slid off one of the picnic
tables and caught my leg at the ankle between the log and the bushhog,It's much better today, just black and blue, the cut is healing already. ;D

Glad to hear you're already mending Pappy. Must be that clean Mountain air ;D. Those are sure pretty staves.
-
Glad to hear your okay Pappy. That's some heavy work ya'll did there.I just cut 31 sweet gum trees off my property this past weekend so I feel your pain.Although none of them were no were near half the size of that bad boy. That ain't by any chance bow wood for next years Tenn.Classic is it.Take care of your self tradrick
-
Dang Guys, that is some serious wood. The last time I saw a truck that full it was leaving your place. I cant believe you guys are talking hunting season already. Its not fair. :'( You still got that big buck tied to the tree for me. ;D Justin
-
Ya tradrick, most of it is.We still have some of last years cutting but you can never have to much wood.justin my little Nissan was grunting especially on the 2nd load and I had that buck tied up
but he chewed the rope into, guess I will have to use a chain next time.I remember your truck it was loaded with Marie's Ash wasn't it. ;D ;D
Pappy
-
Nope, I decided that wasn't even worth hauling around and dumped it in your driveway. ;D I had walnut hackberry, and a little of everything else though. Ill bring my chain saw and some cable for that buck. Justin
-
I had to spray it down with bug spray and put another coat of sealer on it last night. It
pay to keep a close eye on any fresh wood when cut in the summer,This was getting
some little black bugs on it.Hadn't hurt it yet but if I hadn't caught it they could have
ruined it all in a shot time even with the bark off.Had the same thing last year they just
weren't as bad. :) Bring you cable and come on justin. ;D
