There is a thread going over in Shooting Clubs, but seemed like a good idea to add a note here as well.
Some of us Houston area folks are looking to start a weekly, biweekly or monthly get together.
For bow making, knapping, shooting and what not.
Anyone interested please respond to this thread or tother... :)

I'm interested when I'm out there, not much entertainment in Stinkadena. :D
-
That's just the excuse I need to drive to Huston..

You know I'm there, as much as I can...So long as it aint on tuesday for the next 8 weeks, baby classes and such...
-
I hear y'all... :)
Have secured Spousal approval for an ongoing get together.
Tuesdays are bad for me in any event.
Have a bit of work coming up next week, maybe we could shoot for a day in the first week in November.
Still have to iron out some power issues on the second workbench along with getting some vices mounted.
Think I'll try to get a backstop erected for the shooting lane.
To keep me from shooting over the fence... :o
I'm flexible on the date and we can figure it out as we go.

Sounds good to me, (soon as I ask my wife) ;) I use a couple c clamps to hold my vice down and I have a travelbag for my tools...as for a backstop I might be able to get some shrimp net, maybe...
-
Gus
sounds awsome just let me know when you
Get a date and time and if you need help with any thing
my work schedule is a little screwy but
I'll be there if possible

Boy howdy would I like to come down and hang out with you jokers. You Texicans make nice bows, knock nice points outa ungly rocks, and know the true spirit of barbecue.
Compared to ya'll I know very little except how to brew decent beer. Guess I wouldn't be very welcome, huh?
:embarassed:
-
They let me in the state when I came down. I suspect you'd be fine. The accent can be tricky for yankees though...

I wish I still lived in Tx, I would like to come hang out. Maybe one day on one of our family vacations back to Houston. I am currently trying to get a job that would bring me back home. JW Id suspect that youd be welcomed with open arms, especially if you brought some home brew with ya. Beer goes pretty good with barbeque.
-
I hear ya Fells...
We'll turn no PA folks away...
long as you know the Secret PA handshake... 8)
Just kidding, course y'all are welcome.
Mr. Stoneberg and Mr. Halverson, you'se guys are always welcome.
Bo we're looking at the first week in November, if there is a day that looks good for you please let me know.
Jermcramp, so are you up for week days? I'm guessing your hunting weekends?
Just not Tuesday. :)
If we want to meet during the week, Monday, Wednesday or Thursday would work for me.
For the weekend, I would be open to a Saturday or Sunday afternoon get together.
As to adult beverages, I'm apposed to drinking while working or shooting, as a rule.
However after work and shooting are done, I might be up for a wee sip if need should arise.
I don't drink like I used to. My two young Sons have altered my course to starboard.
Been many moons since I brewed my last homebrewed beer.
Quite a while since my last mead went into the fermenter.
Now I just age fine Tequila...
Not sure I'm all that comfortable with the trend. :)

Monday, thursday, sunday afternoons usually are ok.

Makes me wish I lived a whole lot closer to Tejas. But someday I am going to make a swing down south, gonna hunt piggies with Georgie, scrape snake skins with Criveraville, and fling arrows with anyone willing to put up with my northern accent (almost sounds Canadian it's so northern).
-
With your mouth full of BBQ and Shiner it wont matter your accent...
-
JW it would be an honor to scrape snake skins with you buddy ;D And fling arrows too. If you ever get down this way be sure to holler ;)

I hear ya JW... Houston would be a pretty good haul from the Abilene, Stephenville, Dallas area.
However, if you do make it down here we could definitely launch some arrah's, make some shavings, break some rock....
And if your up for it we could put the boat in the water and go chase some fish in the Spanish Lake.
I'm with Jeremiah on the accent issue, only thing I'd add would be a sip or three of Fine aged Tequila. :)
As to our first get together how about Sunday the 13th of November?
That should give me enough time to square away the workstations and tidy up the shooting lane.
-gus
-
Should work for me.
-
That sounds good to me hopefully I'll
be off work that day and maybe have
my bow finished if not y'all won't laugh
At me or kick me out if I bring my bear take down :-\
Will ya?

Not Me Bo... :)
Heck it will just be cool to get together, talk shop, making shavings and do some shooting.
I'll most likely be shooting my Bear take down...
Still trying to get my first Osage bow finished... :o

Sunday, 13 November looks good.
You guys want to get together around noon?
I could throw something down on the smoker that morning so we could have some lunch.
Then we could head out and work some wood and what not.
Just a suggestion, I'm flexible.
Was just thinking that if Bo is working nights the afternoon may give us a better chance to get more of us together...
And in a good Wood Working frame of mind.
:)

We usually have band practice until 5 or 6 on sundays, I totally forgot about it because we took this month off...Shoot me your number Gus and I guess I will just have to play it by ear and see if it wont be too late to get out there...

Okay Jeremiah,
Lets stick to the 13th of November... at noon.
We can talk as we get closer to determine if cooking will be in order.

Had an awesome time guys, Thanks Gus for the gift and Bo for the stave advice!
Looking forward to the next one!
-
Did you guys take pictures? Wish it weren't so far down there...
George

Gus
thanks for the good eats and the
gift and the advice I had a great time and
can't wait for the next get together.
On that note I was telling my dad about
our first of hopefully many get
Togethers and he mentioned offering
up his shop for a get together maybe even
a 2 day kinda event so all the long distance
folks could come down and join the fun.
George
Didn't even think to take pics was having
to much fun them. Hope one day you and some
of the other addicts can join us.
-
I'll come down for sure. Might try to talk Gus into a little fishing while I'm there. I'm just not sure when it would be. Glad you guys had a good time.
George
-
It was a pleasure indeed guys.
Had a lot of fun talking shop and making shavings.
Glad y'all liked the Cabrito.
Unfortunately did not think about photos until it was over... :o
We had a couple of benches to work off of and plenty of hand tools and a shaky stave press.
There were plenty of wood chips flying once we got busy.
Did some debarking, log splitting and some ring chasin'...
And talked about all kinds bow woods and arrah materials and what not.
Bo also brought some Banding material along for the making of trade points but unfortunately we did not get that far... :)
We did miss you George, but you were here in spirit and Wood if not in body.
I'd set up that stave that you gifted me back on July 4th on a work bench
and had it down to ring chasing for the guys to check out and scrape on.
That stave is gonna make one heck of a wild looking bow. And it has been one heck of a teacher.
Also sent the guys out with some of that fine Osage that we cut on the 4th, that sure is some purty wood Sir! :)
Bo, that sounds AWESOME!
Would love to meet your dad and check out his shop.
And I'm liking your idea of having a rotating location for the Bow Building gettogether.
Jeremiah, love the looks of your Molly bows, sorry that you are having problems with 'em.
I'm sure we can get the issue's straightened out with that design.
Can't wait to give it a go myself.
Looking forward to the Next Meet!!! ;D
Feel free to call or stop by any time Guys!
