Title: Yew stave for snake skins
Post by: ravenbeak on October 05, 2011, 12:01:12 am

What kind of snake skins do you want, and how long do you need.  I may have a couple prairie rattler skins for you.

I could be into prarie rattlers,  as long as they matched and were enough for a bow,    if I were to order,  I would probably end up with a matched set of diamondbacks,   but I am also interested in some of the less commercial snake skins out there.   hit me up with what you have access to!

Here are the three staves I pulled out of the pile.   all green wood,  down a couple weeks.  all 70 ish inches long.  from small diameter trees.

how are you getting such a clean straight cut on those small diameter staves?

what is the weight of a green stave and where are you?  How are they sealed?

I have been cutting the smaller stuff on my table saw freehand,  no fence.  If a bit bigger,  I rip it first with the skihl saw and then to the table saw.

not sure of the weight,  depends on the size,  I could weigh them if you're really interested.  I seal them by making a very clean smooth cut and then two coats of TB3 on each end

I am located in powell river,  b.c canada,

Oh shucks I can imagine waht they will cost to ship to me down here in Iowa.  But i'm curious for dimensions on some.

I've got 6 bows coming through the pipes.  I'd need to swap for skins then swap for bows.  . . . this is why they invented money and money derivatives as early as some of the first comunities.  Even the North American Indians had wampum. . . though the least convienent source of currency ever concieved was wives.  Wonder if they all had to supply their own Advil, and stress medicines?

have you seen some of the faux skins?  I haven't seen them close but they look nice in photo and add backing strength.  I'm coming round to the idea.  I'd love to get my hand on some python or boa.  Preferably Fla invasives.
