Title: My 2011/2012 Osage hunting bow
Post by: youngbowyer on September 27, 2011, 09:33:21 pm: I kindly received a third osage stave from Gstoneberg. It had no knots but it had some severe deflex in one limb and reflex in the other. After lots and lots of heat bending i ended up with a fast, hard hitting, and accurate bow. It pulls 45#@24''. I stained it with English chestnut and finished it with danish oil.

Thanks George. I forgot to mention that I ripped the rawhide off because i had to do more heat bending and it was shooting kinda sluggish with it on.

Post by: youngbowyer on September 27, 2011, 10:37:41 pm: Thanks, the bow is 60 inches long. While i was heat bending some reflex-deflex into that limb a little splinter popped up on the back so i wrapped it with rawhide.

I'm really hoping it makes some meat this year; this will be my very first year hunting. I'll be hunting with an old recurve as well but only for small game

I've never seen it grow here but a fellow bowyer that lives in my town has seen some while driving to work. So all my osage bows have been from staves from Gstoneberg. I do have lots of hickory, erc, black locust, and some yew available and i'll be doing a build along on a snakey yew bow soon.
