Like northern pike the fish?

I had a set of pike skins years back, but my dog got into them. That was bad enough but the gas she had the next day was sinister! :o

Like northern pike the fish?
yep the fish

man that sucks

I have a fantasy of catching northern pike big enough that I could back a 62" flatbow without having to butt seperate pike skins together. Pike on fly rods are just too fun to describe.
-
Hehe what a pike that would be JW_Halverson,but i agree that pike on flygear is insanely fun ;D
I have skinned some pike tho,and it seems much of the pattern and color is just in the scales.
I plan on fishing for some burbot (Lota lota) for skins when they start wandering the streams later this fall.

Burbot, eelpout, snakes, whatever you call Lota lota, it's some of the best eating fish in fresh water. Related to cod if I remember right.

im curious, what about eel skins if they are big enough, i know people around here will skin them and cover lures in it and it will stand up to huge fish attacking it, so im guessing its pretty tough

Certainly thin enough! Give it a try!

if i can get my hands on some i will, the eels i catch are to small, but i have hear of some monster conger eels, im going to start checking the local fish market more often, i saw one big enough a few years ago, and one next to me while snorkeling for lobsters at night, the was weird, especially since i was only like 10 or 12
