I was wondering as to what type of rock this is? I thought it might be some kind of jade maybe. It’s a little larger then the size of your fist. It has had flakes knocked off of its surface but that just looks like from when it was bounced around under the glaciers, it was found in some glacial till. Thanks.

Jade or Malachite?
-
Jade will not knap and Malachite is found mostly in Arizona, in copper deposits.
-
I dunno. Looks like it might do something knapable. If it's jade you aughta bust it into small peices and tumble it into jewelry grade peices. What state are you in?

I'm from B.C. Canada, the rock came from the central interior of the province. Since Mullet said jade doesn't knapp and this rocks got some flakes knocked off of it I guess it isn't jade. When I get time I'm goin to hit it and see what comes out of it, I will post what the out come is. Thanks.

It looks like a form of Jasper to me.
-
I would say either Jasper or a form of metabassalt.

looks like a jasper

It looks exactly like a stone I used to find washed up on the shores of Lake Erie. It was knappable. Someone over on PaleoPlanet told me it was slag from the iron smelters. Are there any natural iron deposits where you found it? Might be a similar material, only naturally formed by volcanic heat. Regardless, it looks good to me.

Have you hit it yet?

Could this be nephrite?
-
I haven't hit it yet StevenT, was lookin at it earlier today, maybe I will try it latter when I have more time so I'm not rushing it.
hawkshaman: There is iron ore around here and there has been lots of volcanic activity as well but like I said it was found in glacial till so hard to actually know where it came from.
