My lady went to bed early and a cold front came through so I snuck out to the shop and did some chipping tonight. It was a wonderful night, not because the point is anything great, but because it was a hard spall and thinning went well. Started like this:

pretty thick with some bad curve to it. Once again I snapped off a corner when I stalled a notch which made the point look like an old British jet. Still, I was so happy to get a point at all my spirits were not dampened. Could have been thinner too, but for tonight...I'll take it. Thank goodness.

NICE!! :D

George, that point looks spledid! Perfect hunting weight head too so it doesn't get a whole lot better than that...
What rock was the spaul?

Thanks guys. I'm going to have to get a book so I can start making points in a particular style. It's funny how my points pretty much gravitate to a common shape. Must be a comfort factor thing. Lee, I don't know my rock very well, but if I had to guess I'd say it's heat treated pedernales. Patrick knows. The exciting thing for me is that a spoon shaped piece of rock turned into that. I'm anxious to try again. But, I've got to start making some arrows to haft these onto. Also need to cook some of my sap/resin into glue. Knapping is soooo much more fun than that. ::)

George that looks good, I need to come over for some lessons.

LOL, come on over. Won't take long to show you what I know. I break as many as I finish though. Patrick's a better guy to learn from. Maybe we can get Ricky to come over, he's a better knapper than I am for sure.
