Title: Corner notch practice.
Post by: Tower on August 19, 2011, 11:57:42 am
This week I. Wanted to work on my notching . All the notches are pressure flaked W/ a steel nail. Not pictured are the 4 points I broke. The materials are cream color West TX chert, white Lampasas Co chert, Richland Springs black, a green jasper from the rock shop ,Pedernales, New Braunfels rootbeer, & an agate from the Colorado river in TX.

Just great man! I like that large one the notches are unbelievable. I have a hard time making the points so symmetrical. What is your trick for being so dead on.

Jasper knapps pretty good when heat treated. Raw I was barely able to get a preform out of it.  I don't know what type it is. There was a kid minding the shop, I think he was there for a paycheck not to work. Its not Bloodstone someone else might know of another type.  For Symmetry I thin as far as I can W/ percussion then I shape W/ alternate beveling . Take out the high spots first, then grind & make a thinning pass down the point. Do this on both sides & repeat if necessary.

Would like to hear some tips on NOT breaking the ears off when corner notching.  That's one of the many things I haven't mastered yet.  I  have several stemmed points that started out as a corner notch!  ;)

Don, your notching is superb, I still struggle at times with mine. But after looking at several of our points I realized that you aren't notching finished points, you are notching frigging potato chips!

Very nice!

Dear Mr Tower,
The quality of supreme workmanship and outstanding notching is blinding me. In awe of your ability would it be possible for you to do a video tape for the internet so people like me Warhawk could see and learn. If not, then your still the best.

Really like the work you do.  It occurred to me that I could send some of my hunting points to you so you could have some more practice.  ;D  You have some skills!  A/Ho Joe
