This depends a lot on your bandsaw.  Most small saws can't adequately tension a 3/4" blade even if they have the capacity to run one.  For general work I like a 3/8" 6 tpi.  For heavy duty resawing or log cutting I run a carbide tipped 5/8" 3 tpi blade.  It's about all my 15" saw can adequately tension.  One day, I will have a 19" saw, and a 1" 1.3 tpi Lennox carbide blade will live on that thing.  My little saw will be reserved for scrolling and light duty work.

Like stretch said, it depends on the size of your saw.

I have a 12" Craftsman and I use a 1/2" blade 6 tpi because that is what I can buy at our local Lowes store.

I use the same as Justin on my 2 big saws 14 inch and smaller finer blades on my smaller ones, I have 3 12 inch that I keep an assortment of blades on so I don't have to change blades ,depending on what I cut, Remember narrower blades make turns better, for straight line rough cuts the wider the better. :)

I have the 14" delta and usually run the 1/2" X 4tpi. I have a 3 tpi on it right now but it feels a bit rough when cutting.
