Title: Fusizoli's double curve ash
Post by: fusizoli on June 28, 2011, 12:13:17 pm
Hy!

This one is 45.5 long ntn and about 55# at full draw. Not mesured yet hehe  ::) At about 24, max 25 draw.
Made from flowering ash, heat treated belly, curves and corrections made with dry heat. Sorry for the tiller string :)

Painted with earth pigments, coat is bees-carnauba wax.

Rich have made a bow like this few months before, and that give me the inspiration to make one. He posted a museum pic and this made after that pic.

Very nice, the tiller and string angle is excellent
The paint on back looks quite good, it is with a hide glue? What is width at handle?

I would like to use egg or hide glue for the paint, but our climate conditions not allowe that. May casein would be a choice but used a transparent acryl wood glaze this time. It gives a perfect bond for the pigments in all condition and a matt surface like natural materials.

All other materials are natural :) The string will be linen with sinew wrapping on the nock point.
If I can get backstripp sinew, will make some siew strings too.

Fusizoli, I love how all of these short bows you've been making have come out. Every one is a masterpiece. I'll have to try one myself. Thanks for sharing.

Very nice bow indeed!!!
While reading that this bow,was patterened after another, that was patterened after a pic,i hunted up the old thread.I hafta say, that i agree with PatM on the Lable of the Nation of origin,of the Original. No slight intended toward Rich or Zoltan, but i also question the lable, the original source put on the bow.It wouldnt be the first time for such a thing to happen.Regardless,it seems to be a nice shortbow and i bet a great shooter.

Thanks again for all the nice compliments!  :)

Traxx here is Rich's topic http://www.primitivearcher.com/smf/index.php/topic,25208.0.html

This bow is 45.5 ntn  1.3x0.55 at the center, 1.2x0.47 at mid, 0.55x0.37 at the tips.

I don't know anything about the bow on "original pic" so any information would appreciated.

cheers Z

Love this bow but I still think the original has flipped when the string stretched and it's braced backwards.

Thanks again!

Pat U mean looking like the second bow from right on this pic?

I've seen some bows like that, may U have right. Anyway I think this is a good design too and hope it is not an incorrect version. The other deflexed tip version (as U mentinoned) is very simillar like Semitic (Egiptian) bows http://s1212.photobucket.com/albums/cc450/fusizoli/Semitic/ . Like that design too!
On the museum pic schould see the painting on the bow. U think it is painted on the belly side?

The funny thing, some bowyers say it just string bacwards and the other part say no thats right bend.
I would like to try all version and I think they do the same thing  ;)

Today found the double curve bow pic here http://www.assiniboinetipis.com/main.html

@ Fusizoli: this is a total newbie question but could something this be made out of ebony or a cherry oak properly?
