The heads are hand forged by John Marshall, the shafts are 3/8's made from Ash.
The 14C Swallowtail weighs 37.47grms,the arrows 33.1"'s long,7.5" barred Turkey fletching 1/4" high at the tail and the green thread is whipped twice per inch.
The 8B weighs 25.36 grms, the arrow is 34.1"'s long,7.5" barred Turkey fletching 1/4" at the tail and the green thread is whipped five times per inch ;D.

With some of the serrated edges I have seen, I am sure it can be done. Ill bet you are just the guy to do it. I expect to see pictures of it on an arrow next week. ;D Justin
-
nice work on the barber pole. that head is nasty looking.
-
Nice arrows Loki. The heads are awesome looking and you did a nice job with the fletch wrapping. Is your self nock spined? What did you use for the spine? Pat
-
Loki, how about some pics of the fletching?
-
Thank's Lads,i must add a thank you to Lloyd for all the advice he gave me,cheers mate! ;D.
Pat there's a horn insert in these arrows,i think its Indian water buffalo.

I got some barred turkey for the fletching but i dont think i'll use it again, the feathers looked rough to start with and were hard to cut and a bugger to whip!the barbs wouldnt seperate very well :-[.

Sorry lads but i have to use image shack to host my pics,it wont let me attach my pics directly from this board,it says my files are too big and i dont know how to resize them i'm afraid.
If you click on the pic it will load in original size but it may take a while to load up :'(.
Thanks again for the kind words 8)

Loki, When I adjust my digital camera to the "lowest quality picture" setting it makes them 640x480, just right for posting here. It took me years and 3 cameras to figure that out! ;D Pat

OK, I'm up to the challenge guys ;D. Don't know about next week Justin, how about later on when your not expecting it? Looks closest to being a Calf Creek or Andice style but with a lot wider notches, gotto go break some rock :).
-
Very nice arrows loki ...that John Marshall makes excellent points.
-
Yep Cowboy,It might be easier than a Calf Creek with those wide notches. But then again those will sure be long skinny ears :-\
-
Cowboy when you make it i wouldnt make the tails too sharp, when i draw the Swallowtail arrow the tails hit my knuckles, scary! i've never used a stone head but the buggers look pretty sharp,if it's possible i'd make the tail's blunt or get some plasters ready ;D.
Simon, yes he makes very good arrowheads, cheap too ;).
My next one is a type one broadhead, will post pics when i've finished it.
-
Loki, do you know how much he charges for a simple bodkin, suitable for a BLBS standard arrow? And do you have any contact details for him?
Thanks

Check your inbox Simon

Those are incredible, nice job! What were the swallow tails used for hunting or war?

Horses. And probably any other soft target that needed a damned big hole it it.
See this thread for my newest swallow tails
Finally finished (http://www.primitivearcher.com/smf/index.php/topic,2681.0.html)

The big Swallowtails were used for WarFare, put a hole in a horse that big and it will bleed to death quite quick, which is what you want when your facing thousands of french Horsemen ;D.
I put this spikey thing on a arrow for my Grozer Bow,its supposed to be a type 7 ;D.
