Well, after the bow survived the weekend of shooting at the Classic, I decided it was time to start finishing it up. I smoothed the edges and gave it a good sanding yesterday. Today, I put the snake skins down that I got from Criveraville in trade. I think it is starting to look good. This weekend I should get the skins trimmed up and start putting down the tru-oil. Add a handle wrap and it will be on its way.

I ain't tellin'. But I will tell you one thing. Don't ever throw a bucket of sawdust on a fire. I did that right after taking those pictures and nearly lost my eyebrows. It was like pouring a cup of gas on it. Wow!

Nice job Clint. Whoever gets that bow is getting a winner Im sure. I like how dark those skins are, very cool.
-
Man that is SWEEEEET!!!!! Nice work so far!

That's looking great. I've been waiting on starting mine for some seasoning of a stave, but I think I've got to get going on it this weekend. I'm really enjoying how high the bar is being set.

Looks like she's going to be a dandy!

Clint,
Those skins look super nice.. Looks like a bowyer is going to be very happy with this bow.. this bow has a neat story. Clint got these skins in a trade for a hickory stave that went to Darcy Ellis in Canada.
Here's how it went. My first trade on here was bad.. on my part. the stave Darcy got was no bueno. I looked and saw Osage Outlaw and PM'ed him. Asked for an Osage stave. No such luck, but he had hickory. I explained that I needed it shipped to Canada. And in exchange Clint got the skins, Darcy got a super excellent stave and the person that gets this bow should know, that it was Clint doing a good deed for skins that were to be given away.. That's how you pay it forward. I also must mention that Darcy was super nice and made it clear that I did not have to send him more wood, He's a nice guy...
So this bow has a little neat story of generosity, and helping each other out with disregard for international borders and different ways of life.. Just good folks helping each other out.. Thank you Clint. I was in a bind and you helped me out...
Maybe the name of your bow should be, 'Tejas' which was the Native American name for East Texas tribes meaning friend.

It was a good trade. Two guys traded for items to be gifted to two other people. I was glad to help out. It was also nice to spice up my trade bow too.
I trimmed the sides of the skins off and brought the bow to work tonight so I can sand it on my lunch break. Tomorrow it will get the first coat of tru-oil. I was hoping to get all of this done today before I left for work, but my car died on the way home this morning and I had to take care of that first. Something is always trying to get in the way of bowmaking.

That's a beautifull bow........I love those dark skins. Someone is gonna be very happy with that.
Darcy :)

very nice, can'twait to see the bow finished

Got it trimmed, sanded, and the first coat of tru-oil on it. The skins already have a little shine to them. This is the first time I have used rattlesnakes and I love the way they look. The skins didn't have the black and white tips, so I stopped them right below the string grooves and painted them on the pin nocks. This is the nicest looking bow I have made. It's going to be hard to ship this one out. I hope the new owner enjoys it.

I'm going to wait for the new owner to post pics of all of it. If you go to the Tennessee Classic picture thread on the primitive shoots and events page you can see it in action on the first page.

Beautiful! I was going to tell you not to bother sending it out to someone whom you were not sure would like it, when I could assure you that I would like it ! And I would hug it, and love it, and call it George. George Tejas. ;D
Yeah, I bet you were a bit surprised when the saw dust all ignited at once. That is what causes the huge explosions at grain elevators. A spark, of any source, can ignite the dust of the grain, and you have one hell of an explosion! :o When I was Kid and I worked at a Publix Super Market, they had an ex........crap brain fart, I can't remember what it was called. /anyway, it was a burn room, and it had a vertical metal sliding door. We would take boxes and stuff and toss it in there, and then I explained to some of the other kids, that flour will explode it it is tossed in the air, and there is a spark, or flame, so we would take some of the flour bags, that had torn, and some that uh.....would be torn, and dump half of it in a small box, and one guy would open the door to the furnace, and I would toss the flour in and the guy would let go of the door, and there would be a big boom, and the door would look like it wanted to come off the wall. We would take turns doing this, so we could each go out side, and watch the huge ball of fire that came out of the smoke stack! The military uses this same principle in the fuel air bombs. The bomb drops, and at a certain height, it explodes, and forces out highly flamable fuel, in a huge atomized cloud, and there is an igniter in the middle of it, and it ignites, and the explosion is huge, and quite devastating, and it takes less explosives, and weighs less than conventional bombs, and will cover a huge area. :o It is a wonder we" didn't", blow the door off of the furnace! ;D

Six years later anyone have a full draw picture? Who did it go to? Now you guys are just teasing me. Is it still shooting? Maybe a successful hunt? Oh so many questions.
