,,to learn how to shuck oysters. We were eating oysters and my pretty, little Granddaughter had to give it a go. Her momma was that old whe she was eating her first one. And she's still eating them.
-
Startin em out right....
What I'd do for half a bushell right now :'(
-
I was going to bring a bag to The Classic, but I heard so many "yucks", "I said screw it, I'll eat them at home". And I guess you can thank BP and the price of fuel for the $35 for 40#.
-
well that yun un is one up one me
aint never shucked one nor ate one
thats w\one thing i can do with eating in my lifetime :P
-
Eddie don't worry about the nay sayers. Had I known you had the room ida had you bring me some. I assure you if jonathan and I make it next year you'll have no trouble getting rid of em. Only oysters anybody west of the eastern continental divide care about is mountain oysters. ;D
-
Justin, I'll bring some next year and maybe toss in some Blue Crabs.
-
Eddie I could dang near eat a bushel by my lonesome. Bring em next year. Ron
-
Well I've seen cracker, yallve seen me...eddie you better load a ton truck down with em before you come!
-
blue crab sounds good ;D
i
-
A mess of steamed or fresh oysters, an oyster knife and a cold beer...can't hardly beat it...except maybe with some boiled blue crabs thrown in!
She's a real cutie, Eddie and a girl after my heart! 8)
-
Thanks, Pat, she has mine.
-
I likes me some oysters. Better raw than cooked.
-
Shannon, Cracker, Pat, You, Myself....heck we could have probably wiped out all you could hauled lol.
Only thing I dont like about raw is the uncertainty of what kinda water they grewed up in.
-
well that yun un is one up one me

:o :o HUH?? My first birhday present was an oyster knife!!
-
Dang, I'm getting hangry. I'd love a mess of snotty oysters right now.
-
Justin, The Uof Florida's research says that Tabasco sauce will take care of any problems related to the water they "grewed up" in. ;D
-
I'm supposed to trust a University that aint within 100 miles of the water? I don't trust nothin in Gainsville ;D
That being said...wonder what they say about Sriracha sauce...my new preference?
-
That's awesome! I'm in for bringing some next year, my record so far is 4 dozen in a sitting, they're one of my favorite foods!
Can't stand to think of them actually cooked. Terrible.
-
Geez I'm having lunch and it's making me hungary.Only 18 hours to the coast to get some :'(
Thanks Leroy
-
Cute grandyoung'un you got there, Eddie! I loves me some oysters. Raw, steamed, grilled in the half-shell, fried, I like 'em.
-
Steve, four dozen? ::) My birthday is usually Labor Day weekend and the daughter and I have been known to wipe out a 40# bag between us. ;D
-
why don't you bring us 40# up to hickory memorial day weekend?? some oysters would go well with some fried catfish!
-
Wish I could, after six Road Trips up ya'lls way and gas price's in the last six months, I've got to chill for awhile.
-
Is it anything like eating boiled Okra. ;) ;D ;D Very cute granddaughter. Take's after Gand maw not grand dad. ;) ;D ;D
Pappy
-
Well Eddie, 4 dozen is what I can account for. When I was in school I had a buddy that worked on the offshore fishing boats who knew an oyster harvester. He'd come home with bags of them and we'd sit all night and eat them. Problem is...I can't account for how many were put down ??? The memories get a little fuzzy under those circumstances.
-
Fill a grill full /open a beer /eat raw ones till the ones on the grill are done /repeat
Bone pile
-
I like the way you think Bonepile! I've never grilled them. Maybe I'll put that on my list for this weekend. You put anything on them when grilling or leave'em plain?
-
Ever heard Pat Daily's "Oyster Song"?
"They got George Bush
They made Bozo a Clown
They got Bobby Bare
And made Ezra Pound
They made Gallo Wine
They made Merle Haggard
They Made Andy Devine
They made Jimmy Swagger
They made Rich Little
And made Hughie Long
They made BB King
And they made Neil's Armstrong
And if you ask my wife,
She'll tell you quite gaily
Best of all they made old Pat Daily."
I love'em cold and raw with a beer, but once they been cooked I can't stomach even the smell of 'em. And that's coming from a died-in-the-wool lutefisk eating Norsky!
-
My goodness Eddie, she is cute as a button. We don't see our Granddaughters near enough come to think of it.
-
Thank you sir, she is my little darling. ;D The only way I really like oysters cooked is, leave them on the half shell, a little dash of worchestershire sauce, small piece of raw spinach, and cover with sharp, cheddar cheese. just bake long enough to melt the cheese. And also my World Famous oyster stew. ;D
-
Cooking those oysters that way sounds delicious. Try some asiago cheese with those oysters sometime , you might find it to your liking.
-
Man all these food threads and I'm outa deer and don't have access to a good oyster supply.
-
How about oysters wrapped in bacon and cooked on a grill or smoker? ;D 8)
-
Sounds good to me, is there any left by the time the bacon is done?
-
The bacon helps to hold the moisture in the oyster til the bacon is done.
-
I guess I'll have to make do with fresh crappie and a couple white perch tomorrow night for supper ::) ;D
-
I haven't had oysters, but would give them a go. That is the way to start young ones. Get them to eat those foods now so they don't think they are gross later.
-
That is one cute little one.. Thanks for sharing.. It's moments like that we hold onto forever ;)
-
Thanks, she is my little Sweetie. ;D
