Title: Black locust bug infestion?...
Post by: toomanyknots on May 09, 2011, 12:45:54 am
Man, I have so much freaking perfect black locust all around me, but almost every piece from totally different areas even everywhere I go has these burrowing little grubs in em. I hate it. I have never to this day cut some black locust that didn't have some around here. What is going on. I live outside cincinnati, anybody else find these little grubs in the locust?

i hvae not cut any for bows but used to cut it for fire wood and they were covered with them once they got pretty big they popped and spit all night long so i guess it was the grubs popping .

We have grubs in the locust that grows here too but they are usually limited to the center of the log and only in live trees. Get a tree big enough and the grubs are not a threat.

The Black Locust by me often gets infested with carpenter ants. Usually the tree will have lots of holes in the bark if it has ants, so you know you are only getting firewood.

These guys go right on in threw the sapwood it seems, or has been the case with me. Ya can't see em too well till ya pull the bark off. About how big are ya talking pat?
