Title: parachute cord for long tiller string
Post by: DiGi on May 08, 2011, 08:58:39 pm
Where would one go about finding this elusive parachute cord? I have looked at hardwear stores and can not find any. I would be willing to go the Amazon route if someone could give me a brand and a decent price range to know how to buy. Thanks in advance!!!

I suprisonly found some at gander mouain just a couple days ago in the boat section.... I tend to use #36 mason line for my long string though cause it's alot cheaper than 550 and works real good. I use one strand for bows up to 50#  and two for bows over that.

I have searched for this cord on my local chain hardware stores (Ace, Home Depot, Lowes) and they don't say they have it.

I bought some from a Tru Value Store years ago. They have it.I checked on line Try curtain cord, drapery cord, etc. Thats what Ace calls it. I just checked. There's no need to get fancy. Just buy a cord around 3/16" thick. Jawge

I bought some from biglots. Just make sure you buy the 500# test strength cord. Whatever kind of cord it is. It is usually in the garden section with the jute cord and stuff...

I use paracord alot for my hammock setup whilst out walking or canoeing so have loads of it about, problem is it stretches too much so i dont use it for a long string.

Recently i just asked my local bow shop to knock up an extra long bow string which i use to tiller rmy bows. Much safer and gives a better impression of the finished product whilst on the tiller board.

On a swedish forum i got the tip to use 3millimeter line used on small sailboats. It doesnt stretch and is very strong.

Clothesline rope works, too. Anything works for a tillering string as long as it's not really stretchy.
