Do I need to put some sort of insulation in my aluminium ac duct pipe? I got some foil and foam adhesive for insulation should I put it on the inside or outside of the pipe? Also would christmas lights work to heat the inside of the pipe?

Put the insulation around the outside of the pipe so you have room inside. Christmas lights don't put out too much heat. You might give it a try but I think a better option should be out there.

yup,like Pat said
insulation on the outside
if you have the realy old x-mas lights(showing my age here)from like the 40's-70's
the ones with the realy large tapered bulbs, like and inch and a half long and near as wide(like the ones in the movie A CHRISTMAS STORY)
they would probably work as they would start dry trees on fire
thats why they went to the smaller bulbs, and now the LED bulbs
but there are much better choices
a regular socket and 100 watt bulb would work much better, especially if you put one on each end of the pipe

I have made a heat box, well not yet finished.. 72 inches long.. It will have 4 bulb sockets.. How far apart should they be? Thanks, Cipriano

four bulbs,in a 72" heat box
i would say on every 18" should work out evenly spaced ;)
