Hey all -finishing up this elm paddle bow ,one of several that stlye and thought I'd share-54"ntn 2 1/4 at mid limb 1 1/2 handle area 5/8 @ the tips 48# @ 26" of draw don't know if I nailed tiller on this one but can see some real advantages with this stlye of bow, good speed and little set.One of several possibilities for my trade bow. Thanks for looking-Hammertime

Very nice bow. I'm not much help with handle wraps on bendy handle bows. I have one ready for a wrap and am hoping for inspiration too. Good luck.

hammertime,
From the museum bows photo's that I've looked at, it looks like grip wrapping was a personal thing (like here in the Great Lakes) the Eskimo paddle bows did not have wraps because of having to tension the cable. Some of the North Western tribes had some with and some without.....here's a couple of pics from the Peabody..... suppose you could do it either way and be "right".
One other thing is that the ones that were wrapped, it was usually with leather thongs, rawhide thongs or plant cordage....even if there was trade cloth under the wrap. At least on the ones I've looked at.....hope that helps ya some.

cool stuff Hammertime, always thought the paddle bows were interesting keeping all that wood in the middle of the arms. I think you did good and the painting is very cool. looks like it needs a jute or hemp handle wrap.

Thanks for the compliments and suggestions like the hemp wrap look myself might go that route-Hammertime

Looks pretty to me.! Ron

Sweet... I like that first crouching shot.
Thanks for those museum pics too...we don't see stuff like that here in the UK.
(I'll swap you those pics for the endless coverage of our Royal Wedding >:D)

Nice one! I like the snaked handle area. Maybe more bend at midlimb where it's widest?
-
Cool bow, i like the paint job !
I'd go with a hemp wrap if it where mine :)
-
Nice looking bow, I agree, maybe a bit more bend in the mid limb where you have more wood to take the strain. Bending in the middle like that will keep the stacking to a minimum with a short bow though, so I am not saying it is wrong.

alot of the old bows out here had buckskin or cloth wraped with some fur sticking out both ends and tied off with sinew or cordage, or even copper wire, they all look cool to me, Bub

sweet bow , i started a paddle bow this mornin for a trade hope it comes out as well

ok a bit more bend through the handle on the next one,I'm working on one very similiar-these are a little tougher to tiller than your pyarmid or slow taper design (for me at least) but well worth the effort.Ths one was from an real nice elm that the grubs hadn't gotten to yet- anyways thanks for looking-Hammertime

Super bow, I like it very much. Have still some elm, makes an idea to me, because the length of thes staves is similar to mine.

I think you have plenty of bend in the handle, it could bend a touch more at mid limb, halfway between the handle and the tips. Just my opinion.

Thanks Darcy see what you mean- not much though, when running my 3" straight edge along I thought she looked good.I don't tiller bows like I should-usually careful with my tiller to brace height give some long strung up time and then start shooting ::)I confess not patient enough but after 6 years of this I'm learning. Thanks uwe-Hammertime
