gonna knock some spalls off tim to appease the inner caveman. i may have the rest cut into slabs though. not a big fan of slabs but this stuff is too pretty to waste on debitage

-
Man, that's some purdy stuff.
-
Jamie I gotta give it to ya, it's verrry interesting and I love it! but would yall stone me to death if I said I liked that blueish Gtown and Kentucky Blue and Flint River more? :-\ ;D
-
If you turn it over, I'll bet is says this on the bottom:
-
pat where do you get this stuff.
justin, i agree. black and green normanskill is my favorite. but like jesse told me, if your gonna sell it its gotta be clean and pretty rock. i have an outlet for my blades now. rock like this doubles the price of the piece.
-
so thats why i cant hadly give away a blade let alone sell one
i dont use pretty enough rock :D
ok maybe its my skills too ;D
come to thinik of it
when i do show people my knife/point collection
the one that gets everyones attention and desire,is the one and ony mookite knife blade that i have made
-
i cant hadly give away a blade let alone sell one

Is mook a jasper?
-
yup, jasper
-
Where's mook come from?
-
Man, that's pretty looking rock 8)
-
FOG it, sell the knives, and buy some perdy rock with the $$ ;D
-
australia. what the hell is fog :)
-
I'D KEEP THE FLAKES IT SO PURRTY.
I'd also like to know what fog is.
-
Flake over grind. Not my cup of tea but it doesn't waste much rock and produces art. Jesse and Curt(piper) could probably explain the process better than I. From what I understand it's an efficient use of rock and produces exquisite pieces, but I like the idea of starting from a spall and going to a point. If I had some rare, perdy stuff, I might consider it. The guys that do it certainly produce results!
-
oh yeah. coffee hasnt kicked in.
crooked everyflake that comes off of this i inspect to see if i can get even a bird point out of it
-
You should cut it.
I have never tryed FOG. i know how its done buti dont have the means to do it.
Jamie that should really be cut.
-
Interesting looking specimen.
Leapingbear, does cutting it allow you to get less waste?
-
yes it does lombard. very difficult to spall a piece like this efficiently. youd never get what you can get with a rock saw. anyway i spalled a few pieces of this and started a point and knife. after the third spall the sound got dull. two fractures through the rock let go. actually worked out well . if i can find a saw i'll cut the two bigger chunks. or wait untill someone i know gets a saw =)
-
:o :o :oIts soooo purty it bringstears to my eyes :'( :'( almost too purty to break......almost.
-
never too pretty to break. too pretty to ruin, yes ;D
-
That rock will be prettier and glassy heat treated and then slice it with a saw. You'll crumble most of it when you hit the little crackes. You can pressure flake through them when it is sliced thin.
-
I was wondering how it would knap. I picked up a piece last year but it didn't work so well, seemed too soft for proper knapping so I quit working on it
-
I like knapping Mook. That is if it isn't cracked too bad. Nice piece you have there.
