Title: Little elm charcter recurve
Post by: TBod on April 08, 2011, 03:41:19 pm
Hi!

Just a little character bow. 49"ntn 35# at 24", Wych Elm.
Did some shooting with it today, first shooting in 5 months!!! First time I try a shorter draw, interesting, almost easier without any real anchor, makes things less complicated for me.
Tiller looks different from different sides/angles the bow is twisted pretty good.
I like the way it shoots, think I'll make more short bows

I love it.  You handled that big knot in the limb expertly.

Very cool short bow.  That's a great picture of showing the work around the knot.  Great job.

Thanks guys!

The knot is the base of a branch, which I just sawed off. Hope it works, never done that before.

Looks like there isnt an inch of wood on that bow that isnt doing more than its fare share. Nice.

Awesome bow! Do you have any unbraced pics, I would really appreciate one to see how much I should flip the tips on a little shortbow I'm working on. O yeah awesome job working around that knot

That thing is sweet. I thought a bow with that much character would twist with recurve bent in. Great job.

"The knot is the base of a branch, which I just sawed off."

If I was stranded on some remote island, I'd be glad to have you on my shipwreck !!! At least you could make us a bow and we could eat!!! That is one amazing piece of creativity - you worked that wood into a masterpiece. WOW !!!

Thanks a lot guys!

Hammertime, yes the wrap is birch bark, if you look at pic 3 there's  a tree in the background missing some bark (close to where the knot is)

Tomanyknots,  ;D that's right

Barebo, I`d be useless on a shipwreck, can't make anything close to a bow without my bandsaw, workbench, wise, rasps, B50 etc..

Love it, Awesome little character bow. Tiller looks great and love the way you kept  and used the natural curves.

Thanks Keenan! I actually tried to straighten it out some sideways for the string alignment, failed that and it turned out to be unnecessary.

Aligning curves can be hard enough without character in the limbs, but you handled it perfectly. Well done!

That is a beauty. Tiller looks great and lots of character to boot. Some character bows just look ungainly but this one looks gracefull.
