I hope you ain't gettin tired of lookin at yeller wood. I started work on my trade bow a couple month ago and the ideas are just a runnin through my head. Problem is I can't keep up with 'em and I find I'm gettin ahead of myself (at least in thought.)
This is where I'm at now, still pretty rough and haven't put a string on it yet. After roughin it out I let it set some and continue to dry. Did some minor straightening and flipped the tips. Went with rawhide backing cause I wanted this bow to last forever. Putting antler tips on it and hope to get the string groves cut in this week. I'm not much of an artist, but I like to think that this bow will be a super strong and enduring hunting bow for someone. I feel like its between 80 and 90# right now so I'll need to take a little off the belly. (ok a lot!) Also, think I need to shorten up the grip a little to give more workin limb to the bow.
Let's hear it. I want the good and the bad. I might not take your advice, but I'd like to hear your opinion!

damn that gonn be nice 8)

can yo ever get tired of lookin at yeller wood :) i like the tips too. gonna be sharp.
-
what's not to like, looking good, look's to me like it want's to be left handed, really look's like a lefty so if you're trade guy is right handed ya can just send it to me ;D, Bub
-
I like it too, very nice.

Pretty plush shop you got there! ;D The bow looks nice, too.
-
very nice ;D

Forrest, that there chair belonged to my grampa. And I plan to keep it a real long time and take many a knap there. ;D ;D
Went out to eat with the family and ran home thinkin about putting a string on it. Here it is. Like I said earlier, I'm gonna need to take some wood off, cause she's still plenty stiff. I do like the way the tips are turnin out though.

Wow that was fast! did you already take the handle down in size some for more of a working limb? looks good
-
Lookig great, Those will be some nice character on the tips, ;)
-
No I haven't reduced the handle area yet, I wanted to get a pic up of the bow with the limbs bending. Thought it would give everyone a better idea of what it looks like. Whadaya think, is it necessary?
-
Thats completely up to you your the designer, the more the working limb the better IMO but the only reason I asked is because you said you though you might shorten up the grip to give it a little more working limb and I couldnt tell from the picture if had or hadnt done it ;D looks really good though

that's a beauty Stringman, love what you have done so far. rawhide looksnice and smooth. now stoke the fire in that stove and take a snooze. ;D

Well, I've been shootin it a little and finally got the wife to take some pics at full draw. I really like how it shoots, but I'm a little concerned that I didn't nail the tiller. In the past I probably wouldn't worry about it, however, since it's a trade bow I wanna make sure I give it my best. Sooo, your scrutiny would be appreciated. Right now its drawing 50# @ __". (don't want to give it away.) ;) I really don't wanna lose very much more than that, so any changes will have to be minimal.
-
how'd ya do the design on the back? close-ups of the design would be great, if ya would. thanks!
-
That's another great looking bow! :)
-
tiller dont look bad to me ??? that is turning out nice, great job.
-
The design on the rawhide is walnut stain applied at angles to one another. I'll get some more detailed pics after I decide what I'm gonna do on the handle (hate to cover it up, but I have to cause of the rawhide splice.) I've got a piece of brain tan that I'm workin on now and I might give it a stain and use that. I really hate to use commercial tanned leather any more. Overall, I'm pleased with the way it turned out. Just a few more final touches and it's gonna be headed home.
-
I think it looks great if you really wanted to be picky it might have a little flat area on the upper limb just below center limb ??? Looks great! good job

I think that's an awesome looking bow right there. I also see a wee bit of a flat spot as noted above, but I wouldn't have ever seen it otherwise.
Nice workshop, and very nice pics.
Someone's going to be very happy with the bow.
-
Well, I do believe she's ready. We've had some good times as well as some growin pains, but all in all, I'm gonna hate to see her go... I will say I have truly enjoyed this trade and hope that my bow finds a happy home. Just remember she was born to hunt. ;)
I will try to get her shipped out this next week. Let me know if you like her.

Looks pretty sweet!!! Now just put it in a box and ship it to me!!! >:D >:D
-
Very nice bow Stringman. I'm sure the recipient will be thrilled. 8)

any one aught to be happy with that, your finish work looks top shelf. id say you got the tiller right on . someones going to be very pleased.
-
A LOT of beautiful images in those pic's you posted!!! Beautifully finished bow and I love the grip accent. Interesting tip overlays - you slicing the antler from the crown up along it's length? Think I saw something similar in a bow that broke in another post somewhere but it's more "visible" on this bow. Nice job!!
-
That turned out really nice, someone is getting a great bow there hope its me ;D.
Josh

Thanks guys, for all the kind words. The bow was dropped off at the post office this morning so you should be seeing it in about a week...

That awesome! I want it ::)

Well, I have to happily report that I was the recipient of this fine huntin weapon. It looks better in person than even in the pictures. Scott you did a outstanding job on it. The rawhide back looks fantastic and the tips are way cool. Thanks alot buddy and I hope the one you get is equally as fine as this one. Danny

Lucky you! ;D
