OK, I admit I am stupid. What is the purpose for such deep notching?

I'm not really sure but the Native Americans mass produced several differant styles of them. One advantage is that the hafting sinew would be surrounded by a cutting edge. Gives more cutting surface. It gives you  for a longer point . Example a 3 inch Pedernales w/ 2inch cutting edge 1 inch for hafting & a 3 inch Andice with a 3 inch cutting edge also hafted.

Well done, Tower. I have snapped my share of deep notched points, but have never broke one obliquely while notching. I have split a few vertically and of course shot many ears off. What failure to success ratio do you think you are up to at this stage? Making Andice points is what gave me a lot of practice for the Langtry style. When I would blow off an ear I would salvage it by making a Langtry.  Again, nice job!

Elremolino , not sure of my success ratio. About 80% I've learned it's all about preparation forthe next punch. If everythings not right don't punch. It's hard to tell but the one that broke had a concretion in the notch. One more punch & I would have been through it.
