this was a 6.5" rootbeer cumberland that i blew the flute on. i had a great ridge developed on one side and the other was prepared but needed to be cleaned up. well the first flute only went 3"s. i put the piece aside. decided to not run the flute on the other side so i had to figure out away to remove the ridge and not lose a lot of width. i used indirect percussion and knocked the ridge off at an angle. using this method i was able to pretty much leave one side untouched and not lose much material. originally it was 1 3/8" wide and 6 1/2" long with a 2-1 ratio. finished it is just shy of 1 1/4" wide and 6" long with a 5/1 ratio. thats a lot of material removed and very little loss of edge. hopefully soon i can get a video up of the method im using. peace
first pic is the untouched side

thanks pat, wish i could post the agate basin i was working on. marty (flintknappingtips) asked me to try one. i went for one last flake and broke an inch off the end of it. it was 6 1/2' long, 2 1/4" wide, with a 9/1 ratio. >:( i'll still get a good piece out of it but im pissed i popped the end off.

Jamie it looks good. I just dream of being able to make the stuff that ur pissed you "ended up with"

Dang.. 9/1 ? Isn't that slightly pornographic? >:D
