i bought a new 54 cal. saint louis rife and needed something to start my bullet with. a guy said to take a piece of dowel and drill a hole in a piece of antler and make one or but one. well, i did,nt like the idea so i tryed my hand at carving one. the wood is eastern hawthorn orironwood. i heated the rod end up to make it harder and stained it with walnut minwax. then i hit it with sandpaper trying to antique it some. i think i'll melt a old silver nickel and dip the end in it later.(http://i328.photobucket.com/albums/l338/knap_123/letters001.jpg)(http://i328.photobucket.com/albums/l338/knap_123/letters003.jpg)(http://i328.photobucket.com/albums/l338/knap_123/letters001.jpg[/IMG[img width=800 height=600]http://i328.photobucket.com/albums/l338/knap_123/letters004.jpg)(http://i328.photobucket.com/albums/l338/knap_123/letters004.jpg)

Very cool, and creative. I made mine out of an old gear shift knob and shaft off a riding lawnmower, but yours is much more classy :) I like it!
