Wife and I were talking vacation. We have had a couple of medical issues this year that have crimped money and vacation time. I made it clear that next year I was going to the Classic. We covered logistics and then she asked," What do they do there?" Well for sure getting a schedule would be easy but hey, what is your favorite part of the event?

what is your favorite part of the event?
Have not been to one yet so the best part for me will be 'BEING AWAY FROM HOME' ;D

Oh man that's a big list.
1. The People
2. The Food
3. The B.S.
4. The Knappin Pit
5. The Bow Shed
6. The Fellowship
7. The Target Range
8. Getting To Hang Out With Pappy
9. Getting To See All My Buddies From Previous Years.
I culd go on and on but the carpal tunnel stuff is getting to me.

The Classic is non-stop fun from the time you get there to the time you leave. My main enjoyment comes from just getting to hang out with a bunch of like-minded people and do what we do.
-
I especially like the rain! :D Actually I like everything about the Classic. The people and especially the PA crowd, food, music, all the activities going on all the time, springtime in the Tennessee woods(Twin Oaks has great native wildflowers)...everything!
I think Jimmy(Ranger B) made a slide show of the last few Calssics and posted it here somewhere. Find that and see for your selves.

This is from Mrs Mullet.......I've been going to the classic for a few years now. I have a great time. I don't shoot. I don't knapp. and I don't whittle out a bow. I talk to as many people as I can. Eat. Watch. Learn. Laugh. and have the best time. The classic has Tall Tales, minor lies, Music, jokes, broken rock, broken wood----OH! I mean arrowheads and bows. You will love it
-
Can't really pick a favorite event.. will all the above work? I have been the past two years and love being around so many people that share the same addictions as I do.. stone, bone, wood, and feathers... good times! :)
-
I only made it down once so far. It was one of the best weekend's of my life. Hanging out with the folks from PA and just B.S. ing with them is by far the best part in my opinion.
-
All of it...except the rain. It won't rain this year though ::)
-
i drove 17 hrs there and 17 hrs back to hang out for 8 hrs with these guys. id do it again in a heart beat
-
I'm with Pat I like the rain ;),and also the ticks[Hillbilly] he is a magnet. ;) :) I love the bow making but mostly I like watching the people having a good time, Last year on Sat. night ,it was pouring rain and I was in the the consession stand leaning against the counter by myself which is odd,I guess I was mopping because of all the work we had done to try and have everything just right for all our friends, feeling sorry for myself on top of that, then I just looked across to the bow shop/napping pit and through all the rain,I mean looked like a water fall coming off the roofs there was a big crowd under every roof,laughing/talking /busting rock/tillering and scraping on bows just having a big old time,no one seemed to care that we were having, what they called a 500 year flood. Then it hit me,it's all about the people,so I pulled up my boots and went over and jumped right in the middle of the fun.I told some guys the next morning how sorry I was about all the rain and one said,It rained,I hadn't noticed. :) :) It s is a special event
thats for sure,it's like a home coming ,you meet people that you have never meet face to face and seems you have known them all you life. :)

Been waiting two years to go. Got the time already scheduled off from work and a new ride to take me there. Can't wait...
-
After going to the Classic for 3 or 4 years now all I can say is the part I like best about it is not missing it! ;D 8)
-
Thanks to all of you especially Mrs. Mullet. For some strange reason my bride of almost 30 years doesn't take my word as gospel but she will believe another lady in a heartbeat. As for the guy's comments it sounds like I hoped it would. Really looking forward to it.

Lane;
The wife says,' your welcome". If I hadn't made it back from Brazil in time last year, she was going without me.
-
Of course, it's the people. And there's something about the back woods of Tennessee. ;D
I hated to miss the one last year. I can't wait.
-
Lane...I could sit here for hours till your ears were burning... listing the Good things that are the Reasons why "The Classic" is ....THE BEST!!! Just ask Pappy ...Cracker...or Eddie...hell they will all tell ya... :P
But I'll save my Breath and tell You the Worst part of "THE CLASSIC"....is Leaving...it has brought tears to my eyes two years in a row as I drove off...and I can bet that this year will be the same...I wait all year to go there again...to rest and let My Hair Down ( I mean literally)....and just have a great time...but leaving breaks my heart....the only thing that keeps me coming...is knowing there will be a 15th Annual...and a 16th........ ;D
-
Mike, we know the reason you get weepy as you are leaving the Classic is you have a 15 hour drive ahead of you. I'd cry too! :D

I'm fortunate to live here in Clarksville and get to go down and have fun at Twin Oaks on a weekly basis. We always plan for the Classic and try to have everything prepared and waiting for all our friends to join us for some fun times. As you know, the best laid plans often are upset usually in our case by Mother Nature...rain! :) But like already has been said, everyone just migrates under roof, and it seems like all of us sharing the bad weather and spending time talking about our lifes and hobbies only bring us closer. It really is an unusual event, like a family get-together with southern hospitality being shared by all.
I am amazed by the wide range of folks from different walks of life that you meet during the Classic! Many have complicated stressful jobs, and you have to guess that is a contributing factor why we look to the primitive side to counter and bring back some down to earth basic's to the fast-paced lifes we lead. After experiencing the Classic, it seems like most folks can't wait to come back and get their yearly "dose" of Classic goodness to experience some sanity...like this is what life should always be like, or at least we wish it could! The Classic is an event where nobody wants anything from you, other then your presense and friendship...they're just glad you're there, like family. We all need that in our lifes, don't you think! ;)

I have been scrimping and saving all winter to make enough extra money to make it to my first Classic. I did a bunch of Euro mounts to help pay the way. I got sprayed in the face with liquified deer and elk brains more than I really cared for, but it was worth it. I even sold the best osage stave I have ever had :'(
I will be bringing my 12 year old son too. Hopefully he doesn't get bored.
Here is the link to RangerB's Classic video.

-
...and I've seen crazy hyper knappers running all over the place! :D
-
;D Sometimes you just gotta take you're prozac! >:D

The Boy won't get bored....believe me....
As long as there are some girls around his age, I'm sure he won't ;D

Thanks so much for all the kind words about the Classic. After reading the comments it makes our job much easier to prepare for all our old and new friends to come. We look forward to seeing everyone come back because it's like a "Family Reunion" getting together. I am with Mrs. Mullet, I don't shoot,I don't break rocks, I don't use a saw or a file, but I do love to talk to all the wonderful folks who come to our shoot and have a good time. It makes us feel like we are doing something right for all of you to keep coming back and sharing your talents with us. Just remember to pack a raincoat and we pray we won't have to use our boat this year. Pappy and I are looking forward to seeing each and everyone of you. We welcome you and pray you have a safe trip getting to 14th Tennessee Classic. Yes, we'll keep a light on!
Joanie B. ;)

Too bad your already taken...love ya Miss Joanie......... :-*
-
Mike beat me to it. ;)
-
I'm definitly looking forward to meeting all of you. This is gonna be my first classic. I can't get enough of these events. MOJAM, OJAM, and the classic. The trifecta of bow building! The people are definitly the reason to go.
-
Really want to thank you guys and ladies for answering my questions. I have been pretty disappointed by some "gatherings" in the past that were related to other things. Mules and guns and such and by nature I don't do well in crowds. But this crowd is unusually fine and I can't wait to meet you people.

What’s best about the Tennessee Classic for myself?
It’s not the bows or the rocks. It’s not about the food and the ranges. It’s never been about the weather.
It’s about a chance to see friends who live far away and I miss the rest of the year.

Lane in all seriousness I am not a crowd person either but when I met this crowd it was like I finally found my people, the ones I been looking for all my life. I ani't wanted to punch any one yet. Ron

Well there is this one guy!!!!!!!
-
I had missed Jimmy's video somewhere. Kinda got a little lump in my throat watching and listening. Dang - don't think i'll be able to make it this year due to work! But it deffinantly is the people and not the weather for me :). Pappy and Joanie, the twin oaks boys, PA family and everybody else. I may have to quit my job over this >:D ;D.
-
Cowboy, I think ElD did that! Lane, you will enjoy this meeting like no other. I have been to 6 or 7 Classics, and the weather don't matter. With all the rain last year you would not believe all the smiles and the fun everyone had. It is the greatest get together I've ever been to. The people are Top Notch.
