Title: Bow with new life.
Post by: Pappy on May 21, 2007, 06:54:39 am
I built a bow in 2003 for an auction for a member of the club that was sick.A friend of the club bought it and has always complained about the weight.I don't usually re do one I just make another but at the Classic he ask if I would and so I decided to do it for him.He wanted 47/48 at 28in.
It was 53@26.I also added some horn tips and he is a Baggett also and the first time I meet him
someone ask me if we were kin and I told them he was from the Horse thieving Baggett's from the other side of the river and it has become a joke over the years so I added it to the bow.It turned out 48@28.Hope he likes it now.It is from Osage cut in 98.It is 65 n-n 1 5/8 to mid limb and tapered to less than 3/8 at the tips.

Pappy, sure is a beauty. I guess I am a little lost on the 5# difference at 28". Horse that I am I would probably "feel" it at 29" or so. Lucky guy.  ;D  Again a beauty of a deer slayer.

P.S. Pappy did I miss some where who won the Challenge match.  ???  Just curious. I was not entered in it. I have been touting this feature of the Classic since I got home.

You are out early,2 boys from Ala. came in 1st and 2nd and Gary Davis came in 3rd.We started 39 bows and finished 31 that were shot.I don't know how many of them shot the course,I think around 15 shot for score. It was when I started around 60 at 28 I had made it for myself to start with and only tillered it to 26 and it was 53.The guy who bought it pulls 28 so it was to heave for him.He don't hunt with a selfbow just Targets and couldn't handle it so I cut it back.It had picke up some weight over the years, matter of fact it picked up about 5/6 lbs. When I built it it was marked 53@26 and when I started it was well over that ,don't know if my scale was off when I made it in 03 or it dried out and picked up weight anyway it is where he wants it now.Hope he likes it I haven't given it to him yet.

It is a fine looking bow.  Who are you kidding Pappy.  We all know that you are such a nice guy that you will do whatever someone asks you to do. Even take the weight down on a bow that has been finished for years.  I'm glad he shoots it instead of hanging it on the wall.  Justin

I know what you mean about retillering a bow, I never had a good feeling about that.  Looks like it came out great though.

Wow, horse thieves on one side of the river, and cattle rustlers on the other.  You Baggetts are an industrious bunch.

Ya lennie we make a living anyway we can.Ya Pat it is nice to see one that has been used and see that they are still together and seem no worse from wear and tear.So much for selfbows not lasting. This guy really shoots a lot. :)

Its a beautfull bow Pappy! I've been hanging out on the English Warbow forum to long. 58# is seeming light these days. Working on a 80#er soon. Either I will pull that bow or its going to be pulling me. Hard to tell sometimes!  ;D

D.Tiller, wished I could handle weight like that,I shoot around 50 for targets and 54/55 to hunt
with.I guess that is why I don't go there much they would laugh me off the forum and probably
call me a light weight. This one was just right for me but I redone it the way he wanted, anything
I can do to get guys to shoot them and enjoy I try to do. :)

Understand about the weight now Pappy. Knew it had to be something else to it. And yea I get up early, like you. Amy, wife, works for Duke University Medical Ctr. an leaves at 5:45 every morning. Me and the boys  ;D (two dogs) get up and say goodbye.
Thanks for the info on the Challenge.
