Can't get away from Red Oak. Here is my most recent. Home Depot special. 1 7/8 wide limbs to well past mid limb then tapering to 3/8" nockes. Handel wrapped in jute twine. 54lbs@28. 67" long. Takes just over 1" of set just after being unstrung, relaxes to 3/4" (I actually like some set in my bows). One of the best shooting bows I have made!

A couple more.

No need to get away from it NTProf, it makes fine bows. Although, it is nice to work with other species too. It looks like you made a fine weapon out of that Oak.

Thanks guys. Lombard, my last few bows have been from tropical woods, so it is nice to get back to Red Oak.
-
Is your handle area left full thickness? Doesn't look like there's any additional wood glued on there.
That's a fine looking bow.

NT,
Way nice lookin bow.....Nothing wrong with a little set either, bet it is a strong shooter, and well mannered to boot.

How do you like the jute twine wrapped handle? Is it soft? Did you coat it with anything? Sorry for all the questions but I like the way it looks and I'm trying to branch out from my usual leather handles.

That is a fine looking bow NTP. I could go to Home D ten times and not find a board with that straight of grain or with that thick of rings. I like the braced pic( I always like braced pics). good job

That's a really nice looking bow, NTProf. I like red oak too. Jawge

Thanks everyone. I coat the jute twine with very slightly diluted TBIII glue. The handle is just the thickness of the board. I narrowed it to about 1 3/8. I am not real big on glued-on handels.

Awesome board bow!!! I love board bows because they are so simple and fun to make but can make awesome and simple weapons like yours... Great bow.

Well, that's a fine looking bow right there. I just started another Home Depot Red Oak board bow this weekend myself. Seemed like a good way to get back into bow making after a few months away. I hope mine turns out half as nice as yours.

What can I say. . . . . , I love red oak, and I love that bow.

Thanks everyone for your kind remarks. I will be making more like this. I, too, love boards for making bows. Just something about them.
