A friend and I cut this down about a month ago. He was pretty sure it is hickory and I was wondering if someone can verify this from these pics?
Thanks

i believe that looks like the one i was aiming to cut down ;) ;D :(. that sure is a nice hickory stave. i do know that it is not the pignut variety but possibly more like the shagbark hickory. good breed of hickory all the same.

Shagbark saplings have bark like that. It will change as it gets older. I'd bet shagbark.
