I use a sharpie, but I do the writing before I put the tru oil on,I have put it on first and then I just buff it down with steel wool and do the writing and seal back over it.Just rub light with the first coat and then just go on as you normally wood.It will seal the wighting in.Hope that helps.
By the way I use the fine sharpie, just a preference. :)

Some of the paint style pens should write over the top of tru-oil. You can get them at Hobby Lobby and similar craft stores. Would for sure tru-oil over the top after it drys to protect the ink.

Yeah, paint markers work well over about anything, and you can get them in different colors. Wallyworld usually has them, too.

I like a sharpie but found on Tru-Oil, if it is not well cured it will clog up the pen point. What I have started doing is spray the spot with poly and let it cure first them write on it. I then add another coat or 2 of Tru-Oil over the writing.
I have just recently started playing around with India ink and a dip pen. Eventually I will make a quill pen. India ink will stick to anything...almost! Pat

I've also used a sharpie and found it worked well as long as the true oil has dried at least over night. You can also go back over the area with true oil to seal it once the marker dries.

................................... Like Pat said, India ink an a quill pen. Easy to make quill pen from a putt-putt feather. Just sharpen quill end to ya likin'. If you dont think India ink sticks to stuff get some on yer hands >:( ;D...bob

I have a little fibre tipped pen (Edding) that is specifically for the aircraft industry for marking part details etc. It seems to write on anything. Might be worth looking for aomething similar.

I use a very fine ,black boll point.I write it on then spray a couple of coats of poly.

A fine tip CD marker or overhead projector marker works for me. Steve

Joe,
I found my aerospace marker. It is and Edding 8404. Seems to write on anything. Nice fine black line as well.

I heard a funny but true story. During the space race with Russia primarily, the US spent $20 million dollars developing a pen that would write upside down in space. The Russians used a lead pencil ! :D :D :D :D :D ;D ;D ;D ;D.........bob
