Well here's my first bow in around 3 months.. It is a red oak board, 70" NtN and 45# @ 28" I heat treated around 2 inches of reflex into the bow when I got it to brace and it kept around 1/4" of reflex after shooting it in. My Surgeon released me and said I can ease back into building so here's my first bow since then. ;D I used red and black Ritt Fabric Dye for the color transitions and B-50 dacron for the handle. This is neither my fastest nor prettiest bow that I have ever made but I really like the way it shoots. It is also the longest bow I have ever made too. Hope you all like it. :) :)

-
The bows that can be made out of red oak never cease to amaze me!
-
Thank you Scott, Elktracker, and Cameroo! It feels good to be back and to see that I can still tiller a bow after all... I was afraid I lost it. :)
Thank you Denham Archer, Little John, Dave, and Chasing Crow! I originally wanted to do the bow in Black transitioning into a light brown but my store was out of the brown dye so I had to get red instead... I kinda like the colors too it is growing on me... :)
Thank you Bullit, hillbilly, and Ken! Ken I think your arrow is on the wrong side not mine, LOL. ;D
Thank you Frank, Jawge, and NT! Red Oak always surprises me too. It is amazing what you can do with a 6 dollar board, a scraper, and an ambitious afternoon. :) :)
-
Nice bow and glad to see you back. I could do without that dcal on your truck though ;)

Thanks Keenan. :) I am surprised how fast I bounced back too especially since my dr told me it would be at least 4 months until I felt like doing anything. Glad to be back!

Thanks a bunch Pappy. :)
-
Glad to see your back into it...Josh. Great bow tip to tip!! I think the dye job is awesome. What did you mix the Rit dye with ???
Jon
-
Thanks a bunch Straightarrow. I used the powdered Rit dye that comes in the little envelopes and i mixed it with Denatured Alcohol. You can use water if you wanted to but I use the Alcohol because it evaporates so quickly and the bow is dry and ready to apply your favorite finish over in around an hour or two. It was dry to the touch in around 15 minutes. :) Try it out I think you will be pleased with the results.
-
Cool thanks Josh. I tried it once with rubbing alcohol and it didn't work real well. A friend recommended denatured and now I know it works...thanks to you. Take care
Jon
-
Also if you use it on Red Oak, after you sand the bow down and prep it for dyeing, go ahead and wipe the bow down really good with just denatured alcohol first. It will raise the grain in the oak and make it feel kinda rough again. Sand again and wipe with the alcohol. keep doing this until you can apply the alcohol and the bow still feels smooth. If you skip this step and just dye the bow it will feel rough to the touch after dyeing. Speakin from previous experiences here, LOL> :)
-
I didn't see where anyone said it yet so your bookmarked >:D ;)!!
Glad to see you doing so well so soon !!
Good job !!

Thanks Ohma. It's proving tough to take it slow now that I feel so good but I am trying, LOL.
You are welcome, straightarrow. Glad I could help.
Thanks Parnell. :) Hope you get stuff straight at home.

Josh
Glad to see you back.
Don't push it though! Take care of yourself. Who says prayer don't help!
Now to the bow...WOW! Love everything about it. Really like the way you blended the colors. That is functional ART at its best!
God Bless
