Title: Real West Texas Points (Pictures)

Here are some photos of a collection that belongs to a friend of mine and fellow flintknapper.  He collected these many years ago in Ector and Ward counties in West Texas.  Sorry about the glare... :-\

Here's some Folsom and Midland points from a site in West Texas.  I was lucky enough to get some photos of this truely amazing collection... ;D

All these points are insanely thin and flat!

I was blown away by this collection.  I tried to make a folsom that day and I cheated by starting on a thin flake.  I tried to flute the "rough" side but only got 25% travel.  How did they do this stuff?  ???

One thing that is truely amazing is the way these points taper in thickness from the base to the tip (the tip is thinner).  The faces are not parallel !!

 Those are cool, Patrick. The  Texas area had to be one of the first to really do a lot of bow shooting. Those Folsoms are amazingly thin, also. Joe, Wolfwatcher, showed me some unbelievable thin, fluted folsoms a University Professor friend had made. He was doing research on Folsoms and fluting.
 I have a book of all the known Texas style points, and it is my go to book when I'm looking for something different in an arrow point.

Thanks for posting the pictures of the Texas points.  The points you can see in the museums in Chile all have a very long haft and look like the ones in the picture.  In Argentina they find obsidian points that are very thin an look like the points from the Columbia basin.  Some kind of coincidence?  AS Eddie said I have a collection of folsoms and clovis points made by my old friend J. B. Solberger and they are very thin.  If I get to attend the Classic and you are interested I can bring they again for you to see!  A/Ho Pokie
