Title: Kyle's first primitive kill
Post by: Kegan on December 28, 2010, 12:14:20 pm
Yesterday my brother and I stalked down the driveway to mail a letter, he with his flintlock and I with a hybrid bow. Our driveway is about a quarter of a mile through the woods down over the hill. I saw one head down through the trees and followed the lane down to see if I could intercept them and, if they were does, maybe get them to head back towards him (I had no anterless tag). I saw two, made myself visible, and eventually they turned and went back straight for him. I was down on the inside of the hill where it was cut away, hoping that he'd get a shot when I heard his gun go off. At that point seven doe bolted out not twenty yards to my right. I watched intently for a buck but there wasn't one in the bunch. I walked up towards where I'd seen his deer drop, he didn't even realize he'd made a good hit (perfect heart shot it turned out, destroyed it). This was the first deer for the freezer this year, and my brother's first deer with his flintlock. It was a .50 kit he got from Cabelas several years ago. We all congratulated him heartily, as it was a fat little buck and perfect for the freezer.
