i come across a cat track this week end while getting some ash trees...i had my measuring tape and it was 4 1/2'' long and 4'' wide...i jumped on the internet and the only info that come up about bobcat tracks is that they only get up to 3''.. i have seen this cat before but i am kind of wondering if the track is a small cougar or if its a really big bobcat...so,does any one if they get that big...john

If it was that big it was a nice sized mountain lion. I have trapped a lot of huge cats and it is rare to see a 3" track. Most are 1-2" and you will even see some smaller. I have even chased a few lions with 3" tracks. If it is 4" in the mud, it could be bobcat, but not on solid ground.

Where are you located, Blacktail?
Probably one of the young male cougars from the Black Hills. They tracked one to the outskirts of Kansas City, another in Duluth Minnesota and a third was killed outside Chicago...all carrying radio collars from the South Dakota GF&P!
If you catch him you can keep him. We got plenty.

The biggest bobcat tracks I've seen were maybe two inches, and that was in mud.
