Well, I finished up my second bow tonight. Another maple bow, this one's not backed, no handle laminate or tip overlays - just a solid piece of wood. It's 68" KTK, 51#@28". I decided on the name November Rain, because it seemed appropriate as it was raining here today, which for Saskatchewan in November is very strange. Most years we have a foot of snow by now. I was initially building this one to give to either my dad or one of my brothers, but then decided to donate it to a silent auction we are having at work for United Way. So unfortunately that will be one more bow I have to build... shucks!
Anyway, here's the pics. Sorry for the lame full draw shot, but like I said, it's crappy weather here. I'll try to get an action shot ASAP.

Couple more

Nice tiller!
What are those two "things" hanging from the handle?
-
Really nice bow.
-
Thanks guys. The "things" are just some cheesy wooden beads I had kicking around, I just put them on the tag ends of the lace.
-
nice looking bow all the way around, someone will be happy with that.

No no no no no. They are torque momentum absorbers which you should be selling at $50 a pair to the target crowd >:D.
Nice bow, I like a nice clean self bow (I'd have done without the shelf myself)

Nice Bow! Tiller looks great and I love the way you did your handle wrap. Bookmarked for Nov. Self BOM contest :)
-
That's a fine looking bow! I like the name. Jawge
-
Gorgeous lookung bow! The finish is great against the grip material.
Like Del said though, I'd have left off the shelf but that's just personal.
Someone's gonna be VERY happy with that bow. How do I bid? Hehehe
-
Well done. 2nd bow. Just amazing.
-
Looks great. Was it a maple board? You did a great job. Maple can really launch an arrow.
-
Thanks for the input guys. I'd have done without a shelf too, it was just a last minute add-on, because I'm guessing the future owner would probably want it. (And hopefully the future owner turns out to be right handed, I'm a lefty myself)
Parnell - ya, it came from a board sliced out of a 2x10
HatchA - What's your bid? I'll let you know if you're a contender :)
I would like to thank Adam Beck for graciously taking me under his wing, offering help with tools, ripping up the wood, and all of his advice along the way. You are the man Adam!

Nice looking bow, Cam! You did a super job of finishing that up!

Thought it might have been inspired by that song when I saw the title, too.
but it's a self bow - It has no wheels....or Axl-s
;D
great job on the bow!
-
I like it very cool especially the handle.
-
Nice job Cameroo.I like it.God bless
-
That's a beautifull bow, Cam. i wish I could do leather work as nice as that and the tiller is dead on. Nice!
-
Nice looking bow, Cam! You did a super job of finishing that up!
Thanks, I guess I had a good teacher huh?
Hammertime - I believe it's rock maple, but I'm not 100% sure. It was just called "maple" at Windsor Plywood.
Very nice hope my #2 bow looks half that nice.
Ozzy
Thanks, but wait till you see number 3 and 4! :D
And to everyone else - thanks for your comments. I love the feedback.
I put some different bead work on the lace ends because I thought those wood beads (or "things") looked kinda crappy and will get a picture of that up when I get home. I'm out at dad's farm doing some tree hunting today. Got 5 or 6 nice chokecherry trees cut that I'm thinking will make excellent bow material, and a couple elm trees that should hopefully make a sh!tload of good staves. Was hoping to also drop a green ash tree, but couldn't really find one that was straight enough to get a stave without having a splice in the handle.
I'm contemplating redoing the handle wrap too and adding another piece of cork for a shelf on the other side to make it ambidextrous. We'll see how ambitious I get.

Nicely done bow, I also like the leather work and think the beads look nice. hope it does well at auction and finds a deserving home.
-
Aaahhh, Cam... you're truly hooked! The addiction is running deep! Now you're out cutting wood... I love it! If you want help splitting up your logs, just let me know. You can bring them over to the shop, and we can have a bash at bustin' 'em up. Cheers!!
-
Thanks John, I hope it brings in some decent cash too. The current bid it $55.00, but I know there are a few people waiting until the end to do some bid sniping...

You know I'm going to have to take you up on that right?? I should be able to bring the chokecherry back in my car. The elm will have to wait until I can get it brought to the city in a truck. One of the elm logs is about 9 feet long. Some of those elm trees sure grow straight!
-
Nice work! I really like the leather work on the grip. Jim
-
Thanks Jim. Here's a couple more pictures I took today.
-
The tiller on that bow is very good, especially for your first solo effort. I like the beads & pewter feather bling as well. That'll look nice for the auction.
Whenever you're ready to bust up those logs, give me a holler. I'll be away from this Sunday until next Friday hunting WTs, so call me later next week. Cheers!
-
Well the auction for the United Way fundraiser ended today, the winning bid was $120. I thought that was pretty good, didn't expect to break $100. But there was a pretty good bidding war going on, and now I have a couple others wanting me to build them a bow. Darn, I have to build more bows...
-
Good job, and for a good cause. ;D
-
Nice job on that one, very well done,I had missed it,don't know how. ???
Pappy
-
Heck... for $120 build me one! Actually your bow inspired me to try something similar for my number 2. Hopefully it wont take as long as my first.
-
Looks good, and you are for sure hooked. :D
