Josiah my youngest son harvested his first deer on the first day of rifle season with his new horse bow. Randy Rifenburgh made the bow from salt cedar and sinew backed with bow killed deer sinew. I harvested a young deer with the "two face" bow built by Ryan O Sullivan and given to me by Joe "Wolf Watcher" York. In the same area a few days later. Stacey is still after a big doe for the meat pole with her bow from Dana.. happy hunting brothers and sisters of the bow. will post more later .. Hawk

Congratulations to Josiah and you Mike. Good shooting both of you...although it looks like Josiah ripped the heart out of the one he has from looking at his hands. ;D

LOL Pat. yep he really got into it ... he is a real hunting and fishing maniac.. must get it from his momma..
-
How old is your boy??? Congrats to both of you.....especially Josiah!! ;)
-
Lowell.. he is 12 ... the first arrow he ever shot at a big game animal and he hit it right in the heart.. all those arrows he shot at bunnies and practicing all summer really paid off when it mattered. there was a huge buck right behind the yearling he shot.. he didnt even hesitate . he just picked a spot and shot... I am so proud, can't you tell.. lol both my boys and my beautiful bride have taken deer with primitive bows.. keep your chin to the wind brother.. Hawk

wow, he got one and ive never even hunt! im behind! lol

Congratulations Josiah ! :o Nice shooting! :o Now all you need to do is paint a feather with a notch in it, on the back of your bow. Every time you get a deer, paint another feather with a notch on it. 8) You can start with the first feather on the back of the edge of the grip, and the next one on the other side of the grip, then your third in the middle, and then on up each limb, by then you will need a new bow, and you can start again. Or maybe near the tip on the back. ;DPretty soon you will have enough make a war bonnet. ;D ;D Maybe you can show your Mom, how it is done...... ;D Way to go ! 8) And way to concentrate on your original target. ;) I wish your Mom good luck also. 8)

Much congradulations to Josiah and damn you start em young Mike!

Josie: Not many can say that they killed their first deer all primitive at the age of 12! But I know how well you can shoot and its no suprise that you made the good shot. Knowing Hawk and how well he has taught you I know you blessed that deer before you changed the color of your hands. A/Ho Pokie

Thanks brothers .. Josiah reads these posts and is still beaming ... Joe only thing that would have made the hunt better is if you had been there to share in the moment... someone has to drag the meat back to the truck.. LOL

Congrats Josiah and Mike, You guys really do it the right way up there in Wonderful Wyoming. What a family and way of life. How about a picture or two of the bow, never thought of salt cedar as bow wood only as arrow material, will be out looking for a good piece of it now. Kenneth

Wow, I saw this on Facebook, don't know how I missed it here. Congratulations Josiah on your first deer! Nothing sweeter than the first one. And you too, Mike, you guys are slamming the freezer full.

That photo should motivate many of us on here to find a young person if we don't have one rattling around the house, and get 'em out there hunting WITH us!
And as I get older, I understand why it is so important to hunt with the young, they are young and strong...perfect for helping drag out the deer!!!
