I've been working on this Bamboo Backed Ipe bow for over a year now. I had David Knight glue me this one up for a trade we did. I wanted extra wood and a highly R/D glue up. I was shooting for the mid 60's in weight. I've always been amazed when tillering this style bow how you can scrape and scrape. And then all of a sudden the limbs break over and you are there.
This bow is 58" tip to tip when strung. It is pulling 64# at 28" but is smooth and doesn't feel heavy till you get to full draw. And boy, is it fast. I need to shoot it through my Crony'. I backed it with a big Bull snake skin, compliments of Nate (NTD). I also stained the bamboo first with red leather dye to bring out the pattern in the thin skin. The tips are hard maple and ipe.
This is the prettiest bow I have made so far. I might have to hang on to it for awhile.

thats nice shoot it through your crony and see if youcan match eld's 210
-
Thanks Bryan, I've got to dig it out, I'm real curious what it's shooting. It is burying a carbon arrow in my target.
-
Killer bow.
-
Nice bow Eddie, I like the color a lot. That is a pretty good draw you have going on, no short draw there.
-
Eddie, you have the wow factor on that one. As in, wow that looks nice, and wow I bet it is fast.
-
That's a work of art :o Fine craftsmanship and attention to detail. Tiller looks nice! I'm curious to know how fast it is too.
-
bowmo, camaroo, lombard and Justin Thank you. Justin,no short draw for sure. I wanted to make a bow that I was sure would get a pass through shot on most of the pigs I stick. It's so much easier to trail with two holes.
-
It's Oxblood not pink! Right Eddie! :) Great looking bow, I like everything about it!
-
Pink seems to become popular on bows these days... 8) 8) 8)
Profile makes me think the bow is a screamer; really nice over all!
-
Sure... oxblood... not pink...
my bow last month had an oxblood ivory riser than... >:D >:D >:D
-
Awesome bow Eddie, The profile and tiller look excellent. Love the way that you accented the tips. Congratulations.
-
That's an amazing looking bow, the woods look great together, tiller is sweet, profile and braced are awesome, and I bet its super fast. Great job!
-
Pink! The bottle said red. ;D
Nate, Frank, Keenan, and youngbowyer Thank you.
I'm going to hunt with it in the morning.
-
Truly beautiful bow! Ron
-
Thank you, Ron.
-
absolutely beautiful bow Eddie
-
Thanks, Justin.
-
Beautiful bow. I'll bet the arrows just scream out of it!!! This bow exemplifies the rewards of patience. Thanks for sharing.
-
Thank you, xin.
-
Eddie: Man, that bow is gorgeous! I'm gonna have to try one of those glue up's - wow!
-
very nice bow !! i can usually tell a knightd glue up, excellent detail work Eddie
-
Was the skin not long enough Eddie or do you just prefer the wrapped ends?
-
Nate, it was about 4" too short. I could have wrapped the handle and made it work but the wood was too pretty.
Paul, thanks. the tiller is a little tricky, but fun.
Ken, yea, you can tell David's pretty easy, it's a nice, smooth style.
-
If you ever want to try splicing one to extend it in the handle area or something let me know, I almost always have scrap pieces.
-
Very nice bow Eddie.
-
I had the two short ones but they just didn't look right. This is that big one I got from you. Thanks for the offer, though. I kinda like it how it is.
-
Thanks, Pat.
-
really nice bow , :)
but the WMCA colored back...how do the arrows look like
acker ;)
-
Thank you, Mr. Acker. ;)
-
Nice bow Eddie ! I like the pink skins.... ;D
-
Thanks, Ryan, ;D
-
Oooooh......pink........ ::).......Did you let Cathy buy the color? It does look nice, but .......I was ......you know expecting a .....well, more manly ......red........still, a Beautiful bow! I wouldn't reccomend you use it while wearing your kilt....... ::) So how did you do hunting? Any piggies? Have you found your Crony yet?
That is a sweet looking bow. Yeah, you better hang on to that one for awhile. Actually, I think you should let me take home and keep it out of sight, so you don't go getting any ideas on trading it for something else. ;) I almost had you some Marlin Friday, but it got to about 70yds or so, to my Friends' boat, and gave a last head shake, and broke the leader. It looked to be around 250 or so. If you want, I will buy you some "RED" leather dye...... ;D ;D ;D Must be this good ol Fla. sun that faded it a bit? ::) Did you show that one to me the last time I was at your place? But seriously, man, that is one sweet bow! :o :o
Wayne
-
Nice work Eddie,beautiful bow. :)
Pappy
-
Hey Wayne, Thanks. Yea, I've got deer and hogs in the freezer. Off to a good start this year. Some smoked Marlin would go with the rest real good ;)
Thanks, Pappy. This one is for the Hog hunt in late December at Tim's. Are you still going? He said he would have the feeders going and the food plots up.
-
That should do it,I didn't know anything about the hunt, when is it in Dec. ?
Pappy
-
Tiller looks good.. I'm glad to see you got it done.. ;) Now go make some meat with it..
-
Looks like it could be a winner. For sure gonna be a great hunter. Way to go, Eddie!
-
Pappy, Chris told me after Christmas and before New Years. He has the date.
Thanks David, It took me long enough
Steve, I'm deffinately going to hunt with it, and thanks.
-
great job on that one, those limbs will match the color of that fresh pork.
-
Outstanding bow, as usual, Eddie. I love the tiller, tips, handle, everything. Don't let them kid you about the "pink" color of the bull snake backing. It looks like light red blood from a double-lung stuck pig to me! Just tell 'em that!
Dan
-
Oooooh, Eddie, Dan may be on to something there......a "Medicine" Bow!! :o
Wayne
-
Thanks ohma, they will at that. :)
Dan, yep! I agree, and know this bow will put it through both sides of that thick shield. Thanks Dan.
Wayne, It is "Breast Cancer Awareness" month, and I do like breast. ;D
-
Eddie you Dog LOL I was going to qoute some Aerosmith lyrics about pink being my favorite color but I didn't want to be too risque ;D
-
Well Eddie, you can call your bow......"Floyd"...... ;D
Wayne
-
that is one beautiful bow Mr. Mullet
-
Thank you, David
-
super sweet! should have any trouble dragging that one through the south ga. brush.
-
I gotta comment on it again. Beautiful!
-
It takes a real man to carry a pink bow through the woods.
That's one great looking bow!
-
Don't know how I missed this one....nice looking Bow Eddie....awesome tiller too....this the one you were working on at the Classic? And don't let them Rib you....it takes a helluva man to pull off Pink....I know...... ;D....you need to run it through the chrony....I want.to know how good I did on mine....need a good baseline...once again great Bow...
-
You know, having a red/green deficiency does have its perks occasionally.......I didnt know the bow was pink? ???
-
Nice work, Eddie!!! I've been away hunting for a couple of weeks, and this is super to come home and see. Super job, all around.
-
Mech, I'll have it with me
Jonathan; really, it ain't pink ::) ;)
Mike; yea, that's the one I had at the Classic, I had a lot of wood scraping and it kept cutting the nocks off. I'll dig the Chronograph out this week.
Adam; thanks, wish I could get away for a couple of weeks.
Justin; thanks again.
-
That's one slick lookin bow Eddie! Every one of those KnightD bows I've shot was a rocket launcher and I'm sure that one's no different.
-
Thanks, Shannon. I gotta dig out the Chrono.
-
Beautiful bow Eddie. Perfect length and weight too!! Bringing it to the classic next year? I'd love to see it in person.
-
Thank you. I'll be bringing it to the Classic unless I trade it. I can't seem to hang on to them. :)
-
Dang Eddie I don't know how I missed this. I would tease about the pink but I think everyone else got it covered. Very nice bow. Ronnie
-
very nice, now I have a picture to go by when I glue one up..
Jeff
-
Trade, huh? HHmmmmmmm......
-
Heh,heh, thanks Ronnie. I think it's been covered.
Looking forward to seeing it, Jeff.
-
I had a chance to set the chronograph up and give it a try. I was suprised. The arrow was a hill cane arrow made by Art with a zebra wood insert and a 160 grain broadhead. It weighed in at 651Grn. The first shot was a warm up shot not quite to full draw. The second one was the money shot. I'm happy.
-
Fast bow, Eddie. I would be tickled PINK with that one. :)
-
Smokin!
-
Man, I am , Josh, especially with that heavy broadhead.
-
I wonder what it shoots with a 500 grain arrow? I don't know how to calculate that but holy crap I bet it's fast.
-
It would probably almost be like dry firing. Guess I'm slow today, now I see the "tickled pink" ;D
-
;D
-
pretty fast the pink :o :)
acker
-
Um...wouldn't that make it the fastest all natural material bow ever made?
-
I've been patiently waiting for that chrono shot. Nice bow !! doesn't get much better than this one. Scott
-
Nate, ElD's was faster. And I don't trust any of these Chronographs. I've seen a lot of discrepancy.
-
Plenty fast, now it all depends on the archers skill. ::)
-
Nate, ElD's was faster. And I don't trust any of these Chronographs. I've seen a lot of discrepancy.
I didn't realize his had hit or passed 200fps. Is it chrony's in general or just the type you don't trust? Obviously they are both still fast but it'd be interesting to have solid numbers.
Anyway Great Job She's pretty and knows how to sling an arrow! Impressive!
-
This is completely understandable looking at the tiller on that bow. That's one fine job.
-
gmc, thank you.
Nate, light has a lot to do with the accuracy. We had a cold front go through last night and today was a Blue bird sky day. You can tell from the glare off the styrofoam target. I thought that would be the best.
I know with a plus or minus, it is still easily shooting over 200fps.
-
that is fast eddie nice bow.
-
Thanks, Bryan.
-
Nate, ElD's was faster. And I don't trust any of these Chronographs. I've seen a lot of discrepancy.
Eddie....I do believe that this one is Faster...the only Picture that I can find...(can't find the Original Post)....is 204.2.... so that would make Yours the Fastest Knight Bow to Date...I believe...unles you can find my Chrony Shot with a Higher Speed....
And Nate...Clouds will give you different reading than Bright Blue Sky...thats why I always use the Light Diffuser that come with them....
-
Got these guys fooled, first the compound then the crossbow.... O:)
-
Yes sir, Buddy. ;D :-*
-
WOOOOO HOOOO !! Pink Lighting! Ol Floyd flings em out thar don't he?!!
That should produce some pass throughs ! ;) 8)
Wayne
-
Wayne, Josh named this bow, he just doesn't know it yet.
-
...and a good choice of a name Eddie. ;)
-
Well, Josh may have named it, but to me, it will be good ol Floyd! ;D What did he name it? The Pink Fling n Go? ;D
Sorry, just guessing.....What is the official name of the bow now?
Wayne
-
Tickled Pink. :)
-
Wow, that is pretty cool Eddie... :) I think it is a great fit for such an awesome bow. I know I would be "tickled pink" if I produced one that fast and nice. :)
-
Thanks, Josh, it's a good fit.
-
around 200 fps at 10 gpp is the fastest bow speed I've ever heard of with natural materials. wow.
-
I've been out of the loop on here for too long- missing things like this!
That's one nice job, Eddie, very well designed and tillered. And the speed, wow! That'll do the job, whatever the job is! ;)
Sean
-
Where have you been, Sean?
-
If that chrono reaing turns out to be true it is actually faster than any bow modern or primitive. Be cool to send it to walk the talk. For a more official weigh in. Congratulations. Thats very impressive.
-
Eddie, what kind of string are you using on that bow?
-
Hi, Eddie, I've been a little busy with other things, like college. Darn school, taking me away from the important stuff. ;)
Sean
-
That is fast but I would be suspicious of the chrono. I had a bow that did that a few years ago, the first few shots through it were in the low 200 fps range with 10 GPP arrows. It turned out that the lighting was fooling the chrono, too much light in the middle of the day, and it was actually only shooting in the high 180's.
-
From a physics standpoint, 200 fps probably isn't possible for that length and design. Lots of factors can throw a test off. If the bow stored 90% of it's draw weight in foot# of stored energy and came out 85% efficient it would be shooting at about 184 fps with that same arrow. This would still be extremely good. Beautiful bow and flawless tiller, I would have someone shoot it through a machine and put it through it's paces.
-
Even if the chrono is off a little that is still very impresive and smoking! ;) I would agree with "Tickled Pink" Great name ;D
-
Looks great. Well done
-
Steve, I'll try it again. I only made two shots and had a low brace height. I'm using Fastflight string. I'm sure I pulled it back 29 or 30". The money shot, I fully extended and snap shot it. I only warmed up the bow enough to feel safe and not over overwork it. I was definately going for the fastest shot I could. I also shot one of my glass bows through it and it registered 184. It was a Blue bird, clear sky. I've had problems with a Chrono when clouds have been passing over, this time, it was not the case.
I'm always suspicious of Chronographs, but this bow is faster than any of my glass bows. I new when I posted those pictures it would get a debate going. ElDestructos' was in the low 200's and Jesse's was in the high 180's, I believe. This design is a good one. But, like I said, I was suspicious and didn't believe Mike's either.
-
Eddie, at 29" and a good snap shot very possible. Good flight shooting tecnique!
-
Steve, I actually pull closer to 30". And I was going for a Flight shooting release. And like I said, I tried not to over stress the bow anymore than necassary.
-
Shooting a 500 grain arrow out of that bow in the broadhead class of flightshooting you might pop one out at close to 230 fps and travel close to if not 300 yards, that would be a new record.
-
I had a very nice phone call with badger this afternoon. Steve really had me thinking with all the information he was throwing at me. I had to go and reread the chapter on flight shooting in the Bowyers Bible 4 after I got off the phone.
-
Sooooo, after you read the chapter on flight shooting.......?
Wayne
-
Yeah....I'm waiting too....Wayne!
-
this ones like the "energizer bow " . wonder what the cast is like . eddie have you checked it yet
-
Ken, no, I haven't had a chance yet. I want to hunt with it before I take a chance of blowing it to hell and back shooting a super light weight arrow out of it for distance. Steve did say that snap shooting it, like the technique used for Flight Shooting, and the draw I'm pulling, it was probally capable of a lot more FPS with a 500grn arrow and possibly a distance record.
-
hell eddie i wouldnt put no light arrow in it either . i was thinking hunting weight . i just finished a flight bow from one of the BB books cant remember who made it Perry or Steve but its hickory with thick nonbending tips and pyramid working limbs. im gonna flight shoot it but with 500 gr arrows just for craps and chuckles.
hell of a nice bow by the way and congrats on the win
-
Thanks Ken, The energizer is appropriate. this seems to have a life :) I'll play with it after the hunt in December. Oh, Ken, the arrow through the Chrono was 651grn, with a broadhead.
