Title: r/d hickory and brazillian redwood
Post by: ken75 on October 22, 2010, 12:29:05 pm
this is a hicoryand purple heart i think .not real sure bout the belly wood its the color of mohagany but the texture and grain is different .board was ink stamped Cote Divera which i goolged and its a coutry in Africa on the ivory coast. thats all i know. 64inches tip to tip 1 1/2 at fades 48#s at 28 and the worst tiller ive ever done . i had a lot of deflex and was going for stiff enough tips that i could keep the reflex .so it bends more through the center portion. However believe it or not the thing shoots like a dream and is dang fast. anyway thanks for looking and im wearing my thick skin so let er rip !!!

That's a beautiful bow. For my personal tastes, theres too much bend coming out of the handle on both ends, but your tiller is symmetrical and very pretty otherwise. How does it shoot?

Yeah, that's looking even better. I wouldn't mess with it too much more though, unless you do plan to glue on another lam like you said.

How much did the #'s change with shortening?  Looks better shortened.  Getting ready to tiller my first r/d soon so curious about the changes...

Nice bow bow Ken! They way it bends in the first pick is like having long levers with the power down low that's why it was fast. The shorter version with more work out farther, raised the weight but curious if the cast improved too?

Dont really matter cause that's fine lookin bow either way.

Bending closer to the handle probably helped it store more energy, but moving the bend farther out will probably make it more efficient. Either way, you're an excellent craftsman and the shape of the bow is very beautiful. Jim

Great looking bow Ken. Is it bending through the handle?
