Title: close ground encounters

There is nothing more exciting than being close to whitetails while ground hunting.I was hunting an acorn infested hollow last night and had a spike buck and then 2 doe come within 5-10 yards while ground hunting.The wind was right and I was backed against a large oak and although those deer showed a little nervousness they continued to feed for about 5 minutes.They were close enough a few times that I could have spit on em.No shots though-non-legal buck and no doe tags for that area.have a great day-Lloyd

yes indeedeee....I can't get a climber into where I hunt without sounding like a panzer tank anyway ;D
Nothin' better than slippin' in, settin' up, and gettin' eye to eye!

    It's great isn't it.Try a ghillie and you won't beleive the number of close in counters.Made mine in 80 can't remember the #of deer under 15 yards.My closest was a 6 point at 3 yards.

I made a gilly when i was in Iraq.
 I hunted with it in ks. I had a flock of 15 or so turkeys walk up on me ( Jakes and toms)
 I was on one knee in some broom sage and i shat at one 20 yards and missed and i shot at that one again and missed. I only had two arrows with me and those turkeys came around and passed within 6 feet of me. i thought about whacking one with my bow, but the thought of being attacked by 15 pissed off turkeys kept me from doing that.

You realize how funny that statement is with that typo don't you?  I've never know a man that "shat" 20 yards on one knee!!  :o That's good stuff!

 ;D ;D ;D ;D When I hunted turkeys in my gillie suit I had a hen hop across my leg, actually jumped on me for a second. I was so suprised or I would have tried to grab her.
