Title: 4 days and counting.
Post by: nugget on October 07, 2010, 09:09:42 pm
I have been tobacco free for 4 days!!!!!  :'(
I am about ready to eat a hole in my cheek. Gum sucks, toothpicks suck, candy just don't cut it. ARRRRRRRGH. How the heck do people do it?  ???
I can't even stand myself right now.
I tried to make something or knap or something to keep me busy, but I don't have the attention span to complete a thought right now. I have dipped or chewed tobacco since I was 13yrs old. I even smoked cigars and cigs. I LOVE TOBACCO!!!!!!!!!!
Man some days really suck bad.

When I quit dipping 5 1/2 years ago I nearly beat the pockets off my clothes for the first two or three weeks. After that it got a little easier after the first month I had it beat. I think the biggest thing I had going for me is that I really wanted to quit real bad. Good luck hang tough it aint easy but it is doable.Good luck. Ron

Take  an empty Dip can and fill it with,, ??? ::), cow poop, worm droppings or something like that. Then when you reach for a dip out of habit it will teach you to break that hand habit while the addiction is passing.

I haven't had a pinch between my cheek and gums in 10 years now, and I still crave Copenhagen.  It'll get better man, just got to tough it out for a couple of weeks.  It's not a cake walk after that, but it is much easier.

yup going on three for me,after 28 years of smoking i quit cold turkey
still crave em every now and again
especially ifn i am letting loose and having a few cocktails(which isnt often)
but other than that i cant stand them at all anymore
i hate the smell of it on people, around people,in peoples cars, cant figure out how and the hell i put up with it for that long

YOU CAN DO IT
and youll be a better and happier and healthier person for it
dont give up on yourself
like any other addiction when you are trying to beat it
take it one day at a time, and some days one moment at a time if needed
try this, everytime you crave it to the point you just gotta do it
take a hammer and smash your hand, youll be giving it up for good in no time at all

seriously,you can do it
i know it seems difficult at first but it does get easier after the first couple of weeks
good luck,im pulling for ya

It has been a over a week now. I want tobacco worse now than when I first quit. It is gonna be hard to make it through the weekend. I would chew, smoke, eat, or drink tobacco right now.
Dang I need to sue the tobacco company for making it taste so good.

10 days was the mark for me, but it still gets tempting.  Exercise helps.  The endorphin release afterwards seems calming and replacing a bad habit with a good one is what is often recommended to increase chances of success.   Hope you pull through!

I quite smoking about 6 years ago that was easy.  I've tried a couple times to stop dipping and can't.  I think they put crack in the stuff.

Don't give up TJ.  I dropped the dipping in March after 36 years of having some form of tobacco in my mouth.  July 28th I quit smoking.  If all else fails, get your favorite flavor of sunflower seeds.  It will help with the chewy and the urge to spit.

I quit dipping for nearly fifteen years once, then I took me one dip and it was on again. I could eat Copenhagen on toast. :)

It has been over a week. I made it through the weekend free of tobacco. Had to go to the sunflower seeds Saturday. I don't think I will ever lose the craving for the taste.

Yeah good job man. I saw two people that I really cared about die within about 2 months of each other from cigarette related illnesses and that was enough of a wake up call for me. It was still hard to quit but I'm kind of like sailordad where the smell gets to me now, except if it's a cigar or pipe tobacco for some reason those have an appealing smell. I sure don't crave one if I'm drinking though because when I even smell them then I feel like puking.

The smell of tobacco is like a drug. I love to smell chewing tobacco, un lit cigars, and un lit pipe tobacco. Lit cigs make me gag.
Oh yah. Tomorrow will be 2 weeks.

For me this was the ticket..
Go to the sheets gas station.

they sell a brand of sunflower seeds. it is Jim Beam soaked Jalapeno flavor sunflower seeds.
Just enough bite that you got somethign to spit and something do to do with your tounge and lips and stuff.

Wow, Jim Beam + jalapeno's + sunflower seeds?  That's an awesome combination.  I'm going to Sheetz right now!

There's one in Statesville now at 115 and 77, they're building one in Mocksville too.  That's not too far from you.  Of course, if these seeds turn out to be as good as they sound I may buy the store out.

Hey, that's not a bad idea, maybe I could get some rock out of it!  >:D

Whoops, I meant 115 and I-40.  Anyway, I had to stop on the way home to check it out.  No Jim Beam and jalapeno that I could find, but there were Jim Beam barbeque flavor ones.  They ain't half bad, but I still want to try the jalapeno ones.

Good work nugget! I quit (let's see been with my wife dating/married about 7 years now) 6.5 years ago haha. Now I dunno how long you chewed, I only chewed for a couple years, but I still had the aches in the lip after dinner or anytime I had a beer. But it eventually it went away, just keep working. To this day I see other guys having a chew and I still want to throw one in. You just gotta be stronger minded and not let it beat you, cold turkey is the toughest. I dunno if anyone else has mentioned it but I'm original from PA and there were some tobacco places that carried no tobacco snuff.

I did a little more looking yesterday and I was able to confirm the existance of the jalapeno sunflower seeds.  And let me tell you, they're just as good as they sound.  Way better than the bbq ones.

I think I might have just found myself a new addiction.
