Title: Does pear wood work as bow wood?
Post by: Ncsnipe on October 05, 2010, 10:00:17 pm
I was just over at a friends property and saw that one of the pear trees that he does not attend had another pear tree growing beside it. The tree was very straight and about 6 in. across. What do you guys think? Is it bow wood?

Interesting...I used some for the arm of a miniature seige engine once, it snapped clean off first shot on impact with the padded cross member. I then made an Elm arm and it was fine.
Of course there's no impact as such with a bow, but it makes me think it may be a tad brittle.
It's very nice for carving though.
