Title: New Tonkin arrows
Post by: NTD on September 15, 2010, 09:06:54 pm
Here's a half dozen tonkins I just finished up.  Most of the work was done for me as these were straightened and spined and weight matched from David Knight.  I had some scraps of longnose skins that I really wanted to put to use so I fiinally did some cresting.  This is two types of longnose, one with very wide bands and one with normal banding.  Hand ground feathers (and by hand I mean sanding block), self nocks, shafts sealed with tru-oil.  They fly great!

Thanks Guys.

Randy, I really think it works better with small thin skins with small scales and small patterns.  But I bet you did good with the burm, any pics?  I have a bunch of small snakes in the freezer that would be great for cresting.  If anyone wanted some small diamondbacks, gophers, etc for some cresting, let me know.

Very nice set of arrows, Nate.  I love tonkin shafts.. I am still shooting the 6 (well, minus one that I lost in the woods) I made at the beginning of the year and i have bounced them off a bunch of trees shooting the 3D courses around here.  They just keep on keeping on too.  Before this set it was a set of Cedar shafts and I broke 3 in one round.  Gotta love that tonkin man it's tough stuff.  The snakeskin cresting looks really really great on them too.  Very professional looking arrows there.  :)

Thanks aero, Josh, and Rob.

I really like tonkin too, very tough shafts.  I've broken a couple but I had to beat the snot out of them for that to happen.

Randy,
Those look sweet dude!  They layed down very smooth for such a thick skin.  I think those are quite nice!

Randy, Would you be interested in parting with those Deadheads when the season is over? I'm trying to own all of them in the world. ;D

I missed these....great looking arrows Nate!

Thanks Jeff.  They aren't too pretty to shoot but I'm finding myself not willing to shoot that at the same target as other people. ;D  I fear if someone hit them I'd be liable to turn the next arrow on them >:D

Randy,
I did sorta kinda make a jig.  It's just a hinge with a bit of duct tape on the inside and a vice-grip to clamp it closed.

Those are really nice. The only thing that stops me for buying some from David, is the fact that if I do, there will be no need for me to make anymore arrows.
