Title: "Expectations"
Post by: Kegan on September 12, 2010, 01:33:58 pm
Finished this one a couple weeks ago. Hickory, it's 66" ntn and 60# at 28", 64" at my draw (only pulling 28" in the photo). Tempered belly, the bow started off more or less straight, the bottom limb holds 1/2" reflex while the top limb holds it's 1/2" string follow. Red oak stain, jute handle and limb wraps.

The bow's named "Expectations" because it exceeded mine every step of the way. The stave had been haphazardly whacked out by a hatchet-weilding lunatic, leaving gouges and marks all over and the handle too small. Previous projects hadn't done well with this stain, but this one went great. It also lifted a splinter, which I patched with a piece of leather and TB III, hence the limb wraps. At 64# it draws very sweetly. It doesn't stack, but there isn't that high early draw like reflexed bows. Despite being so gentle to draw, it shoots very well, and holds its own against a new FG bow I built with 1" of reflex in the tips. It's very accurate, with no shock, and extremely light in the hand. All around good bow.

Also, let me make it clear that I did not just make a bow to show off the new hat. That was just pure coincidence ;)

Thanks Rob. I knew if the bow wasn't a winner the hat would be ;)

And here's the action shot. Not the best, but it shows the color and wraps.

Very Nice Bow!  Great shape and color, nice curves!  If there were difficulties, they sure don't show!

Oh, and, nominated for Hat of the Month.

Wow, It's been a very long time since I've been bouncing around here, since I was in the army and didn't have too much time for bows and for other reasons also. But now that I strolled accross here again, the very first post that I open shows me what I've been missing. Very nice bow Kegan, you look well also after all this time.

Awesome Bow Kegan! Stain, profile, tiller, and limb wraps all look like the work of a pro to me.  Bookmarked for September BOM contest too.  :)

Thanks eveyrone ;D

Ryoon4690- I've become a total convert to Tim Baker's "Mantra" from the fourth Bowyer's Bible. Especially since I realized that it's jsut a matter of tweaking a simple pyramid bow!

Rob- Thank you! I've done so many brown and now black bows, it was nice to try something different.

Sailordad- Yeah, I'm trying to get to be a better shot, and it's alot easier with a bow I can manage for a while. As for the hat, it's actually a cheap one from Walmart :D.

El D- I thought that was Jamie's signature shot?

Finnish Native- it's good to hear from you! Can't wait until we get to see some of your new bows.

Justin- Me too. Always thought it was really cool that almsot anyone could make a top notch hunting bow from sticks in their back yards :)
