I'm still torturing w. elm to see what it can take. This one is meant for a 32" draw, but I only had a 30" arrow to compare with while measuring.

CRAZY...!!!

Dimesions on the bow: 79 1/2" ntn, W/D at grip 48mm/39mm, near the nocks 19mm/32mm. The permanent stringfollow is about 2 1/2", close to 3" right after it's been pulled several times to 30-32"

Looking forward to seeing this one being shot at the flight-range next weekend! It ought to make something happen - even to a quaterpounder ;D

If someone can shoot this 220# bow (to a full draw of >30") it would be a new world record, and I'd like to see that.
-
I'll do it. :D

Yah, yah, Ryan... we've heard this story before ;D

Sorry to only come up with a very un-insightful comment but, Wow that really is quite a bow!!! I think it really does go a long way to showing what Ascham's ‘meane’ wood bow were capable of and how a military archer could train on a heavy with a white wood bow that was heavy enough to be the equal of a livery yew bow. Or use a white wood bow in battle that was capable of being an effective weapon in its own right.

I think Nidrinr will draw and shoot this bow without a problem!
...as a foot bow 8)
Agree Yeoman! I and Nidrinr discussed this shortly today. It really shows why elm is mentioned in historical texts and is represented in the archaeological material (e.g. Hedeby).

Until recently I considered w.elm and good ash to be quite equal material for heavy bows. I think different on the matter now. Not only does elm feel like it has a better "kick" from the same poundage, it also has a way of not developing compression marks before it's really poor tillered. Ash has a way of soaking water like a sponge, elm seems to be a little more tolerant to humidity. Both ash and w.elm seems to tolerate a lot of tension, but I have seen ash failing in tension. I've never seen w. elm do the same.
All in all I guess I'm on a quest of harvesting a lot more w. elm than I've bothered to do before.

220# Sustanon? Deca Duranabolin?

umm.. could you repeat that in Norwegian, Sweedish, Danish, Saami or English please..?
-
how far would that fling an arrow? youd have to have like 1/2 inch shafts! could you imagine a 50lb spined arrow on that? probably just cut it right down the middle! lol

Hi Nidrinr,
What distance did you get with a 1/4lber as a foot bow, please?
-
I shot a 120 gram arrow about 160 meters, but the angle was quite bad. It was my first time trying to foot shoot, so the arrow probably went higher than it went far.. I was also unable to get a feeling of how far I could draw before I drew the arrow too far, so I guess I was to much on the safe side not drawing the arrow further than 28" or so..
I'll give it a new try once I find time for it. With a little help someone could tell me when to stop the pull and how to get it to 45`.
