been looking at the arrow section here for a week and have saw and learned some good stuf, thanks guys. anyway saw a couple posts about guys going to home depot and such so i went out the other day stopped at lowes didn't see any boo their. stopped at home depot and the boo that they had was small. someone said tractor supply just haven't made it their yet. anyway i figured i would like to try some out and then order a bunch to make up for me and the family( i know those 2 6 year olds we have will need more arrows after we back them up from 10 yards lol) so where are you guys getting your boo/cane from.

I saw some at Tractor Supply yesterday here in Indiana. I normally cut mine along the interstates while traveling to and from work..

I get my tonkin from HD, and I've got some really nice ones from David and Cora. River cane I just cut from the side of the road.

You can use a candle and a little cooking oil in the mean time.
-
I use the gas stove ;)

I use a can of Sterno cooking fuel.. :)

Coleman campstove turned down low works great, too.

I use a simple bottle with a wick and denatured alchohol....IE ....bunson burner.

I cut about 100 bamboo shafts from my back yard...damn things grow like wild fire. Nodes are pronounced after drying...but they are going to be filed down to small bumps.
-
must be nice to have it growing around the house, well maybe not lol. i think it is too cold here in ohio . never have seen it growing around here. but i wanted to take the saw out while in florida this year stuff was every where lol.

Andy ,check out the thread in this forum { Bamboo, river cane ID,help... }The cane and bamboo in the pics are growing wild in Ohio......Joe

It gets around 4*F around here some winters...the bamboo is tough...its a survivor.

-
What dept in Tractor Supply did you find it. How many are in a bundle?
Thanks
-
eric i found it in the discontinued seasonal stuff. just go in and ask if they have any bamboo stakes for gardening

I got mine bundle from Eddie...He bought it in Lakeland Florida...got some nice stuff out of it....but the sweetest came from Cora and David Knight....I tried growing Bamboo here in the Texas Panhandle...got a starter from Eddie...but it hasn't amounted to squat so far...about 320 culms...and none taller than 2 foot...and they are spindly like a piece of Saw Grass....guess it must be the Alkali Soil here or something....

Hey what about NY I have kept my eye open but only find Viburnum also some other typ of plant along the river that looks like cane but it snaps too easy! Bamboo can grow in up to 30 below zero as Japan and parts of china can get very cold..also I have grew arrow bamboo and black bamboo for a greenhouse once. Im looking for some cane or boo of somekind that I can cut myself, if it is local Id rather than have to buy it.
